Super Jet cold fusion vs RRP steering system

I'll be upgrading my steering system from regular xmetal (with bushings) with straight bars to most likely RRP with 50 raiser bars.
Im still thinking of the adjustable Xmetal which is a lot cheaper.. Is the RRP system really that better and worth the $100+ ?

Would I need any mods on either of them for post 08 SJ stock pole (2010)?

Thanks,

D

IMO the x metal is way more flexy and not near as industrial . As far as the bearings, both systems seem to be a prone for salt corrosion / binding . For salt , I would do a friction type and make some teflon bushings from Mcmaster Carr. That will be my next system.

X-Metal adjustable uses bushings, not bearings. How does it bind?

Get out of my light CHUMP . I will say the X-metal is more adjustable ( Maniac has a system that changes the RRP length / pivot point ). I'm just kind of down on bearing systems for salt . I don't know about running either system on a stock pole.

Just went and looked. It looks like the current picture but feels like bushings. Hmmm. I'm not taking it apart to find out. Especially since it isn't mine anymore.

I've been running RRP steering setup on my 08 SJ for 2 years now, just recently opened it up to check the bearings and everything was still dry and greased perfectly. IMO the RRP steering is one of the best products on the market. Everything fits the way it should and does not loosen up, set it and forget it. Everyone here in NJ that has ever had X-metal steering always have loose sloppy bars and carry a bottle of loctite with them to the beach.

I'm moved by DASA power!
I have owned a bushing x-metal and am currently using the Rrp bearing/riser combo. Night and day difference. Some mods are needed to make it work with an x-metal adjustable pole but the finished product is amazing! Worth every extra cent!especially in surf.

I have the adjustable bearing style xmetal. I have just been running it one season, but so far so good. I will admit though that when I first got it I thought it looked a little flimsy. I also only ride sale about once a year so that's a factor.

What about the Cold Fusion system.... I've heard of the RRP system losing up for people...

This got my attention LINK.. It uses the stock SJ bushings, even better and its cheap :). I wonder if that will work for post 08 SJ as the stock pole is different then pre-08 SJ.. Does anyone have it on their ski, any feedback?

Thanks!

l have both, the xmetal bearing steering system and the cold fusion set up.Thumbs up on cold fusion! Using the stock nylon bushings works great.l'm disappointed in xmw's little pin rollers used. Before l replaced it with cf,l thought it felt a little rough. So l cleaned it up and from what l could tell their was just some crud/sand in them.l put it all back together with grease and it was smooth again.

l hope that helps!

Been running RRP for yrs now on my skis, saltwater, great system hard to beat... Ran the xm (bushing) setup on my flatwater ski for few months, sucks loose sloppy crap, swapped it out for RRP...

It's worth the extra $100 by far...

The cold fusion is about half the price of the RRP. I just bought an RRP pole and am finishing piecing it together and the steering system is the last thing I need. Things have just been a little tight with all the holidays and all.

Aircraftsalz do you have any experience with the cold fusion. I've done research on them all but it would be nice to hear if you had an opinion on them.

Thanks!

So xmetal is out of the competition.. cold fusion vs rrp? :) more feedback on the cold fusion pls :), i need to order asap. Thanks for ur posts so far guys

I have seem them and Carl makes nice stuff, but never bought one.. I think there great if you had a oem pole since it uses the oem style mounting hardware... I'm really happy with the RRP systems, I think I have owned 4 or 5 of them now and nev had any problems with bearings, seals or anything... I will say do not use the grease fitting on the RRP it will blow the oring out.
