Round 2 - up next! BOYD LAKE STATE PARK, Loveland, CO - July 26-27!

This 2-part event is underway for the Summer of 2014. Trying to get the few CO riders together for a meet (well 2 actually!).

The details started to be discussed in this thread:
http://www.x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/colorado.77029/page-6#post-1581969

Dates were/are:

North: Boyd Lake, Loveland, CO - Sat/Sunday July 26/27th 2014
MAP: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zddZh0teKW0M.k6BU0KQYPmEA
INFO: Reserve a camp site ASAP if you wish to camp there! No camping on the beach or near the ride spot. Hotels nearby too.

Camping:
To reserve a spot go to http://www.reserveamerica.com/campi...undDetails.do?contractCode=CO&parkId=50019#sr its
$20.00 Per Night, $140.00 Per Week. It looks like most of the spots next to the water are already taken. Most spots are setup for trailer with 40 ft parking and electric hookup. All "Cottonwood Shores" is in the same general area ( I would recommend getting as close to the water as possible - as those are the nicer spots). Pets are allowed in the park and must be on a leash. It is a busy camping spot, so make sure to lock up your gear, etc.

Campground Map: http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/boydlake/Documents/CampgroundAerialView.pdf

  • To make reservations go to the camping page or call (800) 678-2267(CAMP) OR if you live in the Denver Metro area call (303) 470-1144. Please note that camping reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance of your stay, and you must have a camping permit and a daily or annual parks pass.

Between each 2 loops there are restrooms & shower facilities available. Playgrounds, horseshoe pits, picnic tables and grills create a very family-friendly experience. A dump station is located at the top of the campground for campers only.

Boyd Location:
From I-25, take exit 257 and head west. Continue on Hwy 34/Eisenhower Blvd to Madison Ave (appx 3 miles). Turn North on Madison Ave until you reach 37th St (appx 1 mile). Make a right and head east on 37th St. This road turns into 11C which is where we are located, on the east side of the road. There are several hotels reasonably priced also located nearby (off highway 34)

Riding Area:
We will setup/ride from the "Jet-ski" beach" Please note that this is not the same location as the campground. This is also not the same location as the "main ramp". You will need to get you ski inspected for Zebra Mussels prior to dropping in. Upon entering the park you will see signs directing you to the Zebra check area (its by main ramp). After inspected you will get tagged and head to the north end of the lake for the jet-ski beach. The beach has a much nicer area for setting up, and spending the day. It has a sandy beach which is good for family's/kids. We usually setup on the east end of the ramp and this area can get very busy with other jet-skiers. You will park right next to the jet ski beach and it is very easy access to get back to your car.

Gas: Boyd marina sells ethanol free 91 octane gas. It is expensive, there are several other stations that sell 91 octane along highway 34 as well.

(Past Event)South: Lake Henry, near Sugar City, CO Sunday June 1st 2014
Camping available (free) on the beach. No major facilities or cities nearby. Pack accordingly. Convenience store down the road is about it.

^^^^ Not hearing much from the guys up North yet - hopefully they will be able to answer - But, a few of them are getting ready to leave for Pismo Spring Break ride. Busy thinking about that, I'm sure.

Also, I need them to look at the dates for up there. Already had one guy say he cant do July 19-20, so that's why i listed an alternate for August 2nd instead.
Also had one of them say they wont be able to make the South ride June 1st because it conflicts with a race in KS.

Any of those dates work for me. Neil you should tag everyone in the post again - I almost missed this thread.

You can camp at boyd. It is mostly an RV park (with full electric, ect) but I think there are regualr sites as well. Here is a link to where you can reserve the sites - put the dates into the left hand side of the screen: http://www.reserveamerica.com/campi...ntractCode=CO&parkId=50019&topTabIndex=Search. Unfortunatly I have never camped there (as I live so close) but I am sure others can chime in with their experiences. I am sure the spots will fill up quick so I reccomend reserving it ASAP - the summer weekends can get very busy.

We typically ride from the "jet ski beach" on the north end of the lake. We will plan on setting up camp there.

It is the exact opposite of Meridith - lots of facilities, and cities nearby ;) so dont worry if you forget anything.

Thanks icecold. Looks like a can drop a tent in any of the sites. I'd say about 10% of the sites are already booked. I'll keep an eye on it and sound a panic alarm if they start filling up and we don't have a solid date.

As for Meredith you can park RV's right off the beach or set a tent anywhere. There is only one public beach area so it's easy to find. One ramp or you can launch from the shore in the right locations. Sand is soft and deep so be careful where you drive. Beach dolly is very handy. As long as it's not horribly windy and the dates work we will stay the night at Meredith too.

Anyone else plan on staying Saturday night at either location?

I'll probably be camping at Meredith. I've never been but it sounds sweet to be able to just pitch a tent wherever you want on the beach. If I dont have a beach dolly would it be wise to camp near the ramp, or is there even a beach near the ramp? Does it fill up fairly fast or do you get a decent amount of space to yourself? Don't know if ill camp at boyd since im fairly close. Also, I've never seen the sites at boyd for some reason. Are they over by the swim beach? If so I'm not sure how tent friendly boyd would be.

Everything is really close to the "dock", so it's pretty easy to get stuff in and out of the water. It depends on the weekend there should be a lot of room that weekend though!

Also I'm sure that myself and a couple of others will have our beach dollies out there if someone needs to use one.

^^^^ What he said - don't camp by the ramp. There will be carts to borrow. Heck, if the water level is right, you can back your trailer in on the shoreline (4wd only). Worst case, launch at the ramp and walk over from where you're camped - this place is very small. See map I posted above in first post.

BTW, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited about this. Thanks for setting it up Neil. You're a legend.

Fixed it for ya. And thanks...
