If there was a surf comp on the east coast, what would make you want to attend ? Also what do you think a trick requirement should be ?
Something is in the works, I just want to hear some opinions !

1. what would make you want to attend ?
2. trick requirement, and what ?
a. stab
b. roll
c. backy

I am working on some things with Slutty, and We are coming up
with a way to let Just surf riders and Aerial guys to all compete !

(reason for trick requirement is so it will narrow to serious individuals)
there is many different angles I want to go, but I am looking to put on a comp. that Many people can attend and have some fun and loot !
there will be qualifying and other info not ready to say yet !
thank you for your Opinion !

sounds great pete!

1. I'll attend any freeride comp on the east coast. I'd prefer south of NJ though...
2. it's hard to require backies on the east coat isn't it? you don't alway's have back flip waves. maybe limit it to a roll that is riden out of. maybe a 1 handed roll if you want to raise the level some.

1. Have it and they will come
2. Requirements
novice = stab and other simple tricks
expert = Backy and other more advanced stuff

Make it so people that arn't as good as the pro's have a place to start. Just like the novice class in racing.

Petey is on to some really great ideas... With the help of riders and good dialog we will come up w/ a format that is for the riders and about brining up new riders. The format will be the key to making this work... We disscussed a few ideas last night and I'm totally stoked about the potential... Keep the ideas commng...

Killer ideas man!

Pete, I love the idea of an East Coast event!!!!!!

How about setting it up like gymnastics too... have to perform a set list of tricks for each class (novice and expert) that HAVE to be done, as well as any elective tricks for each rider.

Then, score by:
1. whether each rider hit the trick and magnitude/amplitude of the trick and the shear number of tricks accomplished.
2. a scoring section on uniqueness (sp) of elective tricks.

Just some thoughts...

btw... I will make it to Jersey in '07...

you need to avoid rules that demand a functional pole like the Pismo comp had. let the conversion ski's, x2's and blaster have a chance to enter too.

I don't know if it would be necessary, but to fairly separate the classes would it make any sense to have some tricks that are not scored? For example, someone in the novice class pulls off no handed barrell rolls and one handed backies. He should probably be in the pro class. I really don't know where I stand on this but I thought it might be worth bringing up for discussion.

This sounds cool! I think a few from the cleve crew would roll. I can compete on the surfing part and maybe bust some backies after I learn how in Daytona:Banane01:

EXACTLY!!!! We don't want this to be like what the flatwater guys are going through. They have no idea how they will be judged on a trick or what tricks are even judged before going into a comp. Gymnists know exactly what tricks they need to pull and at what level so they can practice them. Level of difficulty also play a factor.

for example: simple barrel roll executed perfectly will get you 8 out of 10 possible points, a one hander will get you 9, a no-hander will get you 10, if it's perfect ad really big. so on so forth... you get the idea.

All of this will be worked out and be given to all riders to review. That way you can plan a run and really have a clue of what you need to do to win.

Even if you are down a few ponits in the final round, you are still in there, cause you are informed and in tune w/ what needs to be done to win...

Hell yeah! And it's much less subjective as the scoring rules are pre-defined.

that's why you have qualifications... if they are at that level they will be bumped up (weather they like it or not) no sandbagging

I'd be interested to see the trick list. it could be very long and the point value very subjective.

I'd like to add the first trick and point value:
dumper jumper (-)1 point.

you pre define all the tricks there will be no guessing at all. You will have the tools you need to make the right call.

Also, it make the judging more consistant

It may not be... there are only so many tricks we are pulling in the surf. Maybe 10 w/ variations... that would be very easy to break down and disect

a good idea I saw to prevent sand bagging at a wake board comp was to limit inverts. something like this:
beginner/grom - none
novise - 2
expert - unlimited

If a rider did more than 2 inverts his score was pushed up to expert level.
