D-roc's 96 Rn

86 dominators is what I have, call dasa they just did a run and was the only place I could find them 200 a piston with just the rings and c clips I then went and bought all oem piston pins and needle bearings. There's a few places with 85.5s but no where else has 86

Good to know. I was thinking I would be contacting them. I thought jake had a st of 86 pistons for sale. I should ask him about that and see what kind they are.

I fixed the starter gear but am having problem with good spark. It is intermittent and will not even give the motor a pop. I pulled the flywheel cover after testing the igniter/coil and I tested the stator. Both appear to be fine. The flywheel bolt was half out so I am pulling the flywheel to check the woodruff key. I am thinking it is pooched. If it's not I guess I change the coil/igniter just to be sure. All old Kawasaki skis have such crappy electronics. And buying used parts are pointless IMO because they are still 25 years old. I am going to assume the carb is not going to pump fuel once I get that far. Lol. I will keep plugging away at it.

I pulled the engine for the 20th time today so I could pop the mag flywheel, yes these motors have two flywheels. It was crusty under the cover as to be expected. The flywheel used m6 bolts that I didn't have so I drilled and tapped for m8's like a superjet uses. Bang popped it off and the key was still good so that was not a problem with timing. I cleaned everything and it tests out fine with ohm meter. I put the wheel back on and snapped the flywheel bolt off in the crank snub upon retorque. Sweet! Drilled that out a bit and used my "easy out" to unthread it. Tapped it and found a new bolt to use. Put it all back together and still get intermittent spark so I got a new oem igniter coil and a cdi stop relay for eBay coming. Next thing is if I can find a new stator or send this one to JSS for a refurb. Stupid kawasaki!

ohh man I told you not to torque it too much its the thinnest flywheel bolt I ever seen .. I couldn't drill mine out it was f ed got rid of the whole ski because of it and cut my losses ! don't spend too much on the engine I see complete 300 engines come up from time o time dirt cheap on kijiji .. also check the forums you could probably replace that engine complete cheaper than buying parts for it !

I don't know that the js300, js440, js550, hulls intake to the pump are the same as the mighty 300sx. I have been looking at eBay parts and even the internals on the electrical boxes vary from the js300 to the 300sx. Not 100% sure on this but it may be different........stupid kawasaki. Lol. Thanks for the link Dave. I remember putting on a nice scoop grate on my js550 back in the day. It's at the bottom of ipperewash beach somewhere. Worked good until it fell off. What are you ski plans this year Dave?

Hey ang, I didn't even torque it down, the previous owner put a bolt in that was too Long when he deleted the oil pump. It snapped but it was a soft metal. The drill went right in and it came out no problem. I just about tossed it in the scrap pile but I am not going to let this kawasaki kick my ass. I will get it running! I have seen some motors for cheap on eBay but shipping is too much. And I am not restoring a ski with old parts, the only way to fix it properly is to try and find new oem parts off eBay. Even though they are 25 years old still, being new I can hope they will perform as designed. It's just money. The starter motor I got used and it works but I will have to bring it in for a rebuild (25$) or see if the brushes can swap over from a Yamaha. These old skis have tons of little issues and putting on other used parts just makes you go in circles because the same parts fail. Like I said if the new coil and cdi relay don't fix it, I will rebuild the stator and then there is no reason it should not spark. Stay tuned.
