How's everyones mutual funds/401k/pensions doing? Had to put off retirement for a few years?

I'm down about 13%YTD after last week, but I keep contributing bi-weekly, and will be buying low this week thats for sure.

my 401K has taken a MAJOR dump in the last couple of years.

I guess I need to change my investments.
Mark, PM me and let me know the secret to 13% return, I think I had like 3% last year.

at this rate, I might have to work until retirement age!

DOHH!

I was doing over 14% for several years. This little bump along the way won't matter in 5 years, and I actually like the fact that I'm buying more for my dollar right now.

BTW, found a Dave Ramsey forum if anyone is interested. www.llnoe.com It's free, not run by Dave Ramsey though they follow his plan and it's about that way of thinking.

right, longterm will be ok.

it just bothers me!

my YTD was -9%

I love the states 10% match though, I guess that alone is good enough to make me feel better, I am just tired of working, and ready to retire!

My rate of return:
2007 - 7.6%
2006 - 14.3%
2005 - 9.7%
2004 - 14.1%
1/1/04 -> 12/31/07 - 11.3%

BTW, I must have hit 7 instead of 4 in that earlier post.

Oh, and this is sobering, last year I took home 61.5% of my gross, even with claiming married/10. Bonuses are more like 55% because of how they are calculated.

I've Read the total money make over and I'm going to see David Ramsey speak this Thursday In Grand Rapids, MI........ I'm doing pretty well planning for retirement and paying off what debt I have left......

Last year was a great year for a lot of folks 401Ks. My top two holdings did 20% and 22%. My crappiest holding did 5.3%. There were tons of overseas funds doing in the 26% and better range.

This year though... -9.1% but as everyone has noted, now is the time when you pick up more shares for every deposit.

i'm so glad the ramsey radio-infomercials have plagued the airwaves... time for all the new years resolution-ers hit the check books and pay off their CCs!!!!!

still can't wrap my mind around this whole gig...

$29-169 for tix.
12 for parking
12 for gas (from my house, roundtrip)
25 for book
29 for budgeting cdrom software
49 for website membership (6-mo)

and... if you're still having trouble, there's a safety net... hey, the best medicine sometimes costs the most, right?

$299 FPU dvds
$200 local "classes" whatever those are

then, once you're out of debt, celebrate with a "no debt" sticker (its only a buck! heck!) and a coupon companion (coupon holder) for only $14.95!!

WTF! I'LL NEED TO CLIP COUPONS FOR 1.5yrs TO PAY OFF THE DEBT ON MY COUPON HOLDER!!!!

In my book, talk to a financially successful family member, church, friend, on how to get your ducks in a row. i know plenty of FREE classes put on locally by churches/schools/colleges that come WELL recommended and won't cost you a dime.

my .02 anyway... maybe i'm just aggravated by these friggin stupid commercials.

i do find it a little unnerving that my international funds yielded almost triple what my domestic investments did. several years now in fact.

i'm certainly no global investment guru, but it sure seems like booming global economies and doom/gloom domestic "recession" talk somewhat allude to some scary times ahead eh?

oil transformed global economics, and will likely undo them... thats my fear.
