disappointed with my new blaster

so I just took out my new 96 b1 and the bottom end is just not there, mid is good and the top end is soft also, my jetting should be good. It has wiesco pistons, r&d head, factory mod pipe, and 13-17 prop, to start the tuning process should I start with the carbs or the pipe? I forgot where I set the needles on the carbs but I set it the same as someone else on here with the same mods.

Its over propped. Repitch the impeller and bore the nozzle, that will do a lot for response and acceleration.

13/17 is overproped!? Stock they are 15/18 and have decent bottom end with a few mods. OP 13/18 should be fine, I run a 14.5/18 and it jumps out of the water.

But make sure your prop isn't chewed up. That will also kill performance.

its just over a 701 its at 81.5 mm, I have a mint pump with a 13-19 prop that I can swap in and see if it helps but i will also try the watcon tuning out during the week when no one is out. And I'm almost positive when I bought it the prop was in good shape

Ocean guys are going to like diff stuff than you....the 14.5 18 was the worst prop I ever owned. It sounds like your ski should be snappy IMO. But that prop does LOVE being cutback 3mm and it loves a 85 nozzle with a stock cone IMO. That is my set up but my hull is probably about 70lbs lighter than a B1.

Stock porting? Just curious...

How is your blaster 70 lbs lighter? Whole thing carbon? And I hate you. :)

No I meant my light AM stand up hull is about 70 lighter... I think....B1's weigh about 40lbs more than a stock Sj, right? I am 30 under a stock SJ.

I would soooooo loooooove to have a light weight B1!

Kevbo's right, rour WAY over propped for surf. surf is all about low end. 9/15 or MAX pitch around 11/17 for a 701. My b1 can with a 17/20 or something like tht, shocking in the surf. put the 9/15 hooker in and boom.. that and tune. sweet.

So my high fuel screw I believe I started at 1.5 out and if it is off by a little of even a half turn it will make this thing feel almost like a stock ski? Would it or how much would it affect performance if it was mixed 32:1 for break in of the top end? This thing also has a lightened flywheel which I can only notice in midrange?

That does not mean anything unless you are using the exact same prop from the same manufacturer with the same design spec'. Example A solas "I, J or K" prop. These props are the same prop, just different pitch. A Solas J 14.7-18.5 is not the same as a Concorde 14-19. The Concorde would be way to tall a prop even though the pitches are the same. The design is totally different. Another example a Solas Concorde 12-15 is their lowest pitch, this is about equal to a IMPROS Hooker 9/15. Different designs. Looks like your running a Solas "I" series prop, this is a good low end prop, it was designed for low end or on stock to mild limited setups.

Damn I lost the paper where I wrote down my jetting, but I believe it was 135 mains 75 pilots. I will take them apart to verify this tho and the compression is 175 177

Sounds like reversed jetting, not a bad thing.
How do you have your pipe tuned??? if you have water spraying on the high speed side, this will flatten out your bottom. Typically your top adjuster is opened some, mid and bottom closed.

Lots of miss information in the thread, when people start talking about impellers they to mention the actual type of impeller. A hooker, skat and solas do not pitch the same

A good starting point for your blaster would be a 9/15 hooker or a Skat C75 12-17 with a 3-5mm cutback
