Do Reeds help Performance

2 yrs is a long time, but id guess that they were striped out some if they came back out with red loctite.the cages being made out of plastic would be easy to over tighten and strip

Hmm, guess I'm not the only one...

I'm doing a build now and my VF II's I'm using from my last motor also had loose screws when i took it apart. They didnt come out completely, but backed out a little bit. I put them in 2 years ago and red loctited them, but they still came loose...
Not sure what I'm gonna do this time.

thats bad to hear, im putting a motor together right as we speak and im questioning if i should just use the cut down kawi reed's insted.. i hate wondering if something is going to fail.. i heard some of the builders are against vf2's i guess the builders are always right in the end:aargh4:

thats the reeds and the intake

i guess vf2 = $235 protec intake manifold = $170 which would be $405 so yeah a more expensive option

the reason i was given is that the v-force reeds dont seal as well

the complete carb set up of modified 46s, intake and reeds is $1500 from x-metal

1500 is half of what they want for there 800cc... so again is it worth it lol
what kind of snap are reeds gonna give you?
the 600 i spent on my flywheel was worth it, is it going to be like that kinda snap?

its only half if you then do the assembly and all the set up yourself a complete ss865 motor package with short block, carbs, reeds is in excess of $7000

the carbs are modified by chuck too and they are dialed in for the motor

a great running motor is a combination of different parts put together correctly

in this case x-metal was my motor builder so i have gone with their recommendation rather than take pieces from different sources and crossing my fingers... guess ill let you know how it performs once the ice has melted from the lakes

I ran boyesons on stock cages. I had probably 10-15 hours on them when I took them out. There was about 1mm gap between each petal. I was running a ported cylinder with 38s, so it might have had to do with a very high air velocity.

Eitherway, I threw those away after a month, and put in some 760 reeds, Cant complain and I know they will last forever. Maybe VF2's someday.... when I run out of other more interesting things to change.

Edit. Also when I went from the metal reeds to the Boysen multi stage carbon reeds I really didnt notice that much of a difference....

I just had Art @ JETWORKS setup a complete package for me before daytona. 709 ported cylinder, Dual Jetworks Mod'd 38's epoxyied OEM manifold and Jetworks carbon reeds setup on stock reed blocks.... Extremely cheap compared to other aftermarket setups I have run before and just as good honestly I think they make the motor even more snappier!!! Call Art and talk to him. You wont be disappointed!
