I just pick this up a few weeks ago

I agree about the update thing on MX bikes, but for woods, I disagree, I rode a 95 XR250 from 2000-2006, riding with guys on newer better equiped bikes, but never once was I not able to go anywhere they could..... sometimes I could go through stuff better.......

I disagree w/ the idea that a street legal bike can't perform in the woods at a high level...
my bike: KTM 250 EXC is considered to be one of the top bikes you can get for woods racing and is horrible on the street.... I think it's more like 99% dirt and 1% road...

hey Nick, someone already said that the KTM is the exception, that is a Dirt bike converted to dual sport legal...... It did not come from the factory like that did it?

they come from the factory as dual sport bikes in Europe and when imported here they remove the brake light switch and high beam light so they are not legal on the road. All you do is buy those parts and badda bing, you are riding on the road...

What is that little thing? I wouldn't mind to have an in town bike as long as it was moped size I wouldn't take it down the interstate.

That 650 will serve you fine! Sure its not a Advanced Moto x bike, but if you mostly want a bike for around town driving (to save on gas) and still be able to take offroad it is right up your ally.
I did not recomend the DRZ just because I could not see spending 4k for one. They are Turds in the woods about as much as bad as the 650. But the 650 will get you on the highway at 75mph with the right gearing no problem. 1993 is not to old at all for a well kept Honda dualsport that obviously has very little offroad time. Sorry idok.

A huge thing to consider to is we live in FL where everything is a whooped out sand pit. Thats why Short guy Scott couldnt handle the Dr in the woods. If your trails you plan on riding are hardpack, you will have no issues, but it will still be rather heavy when picking it back up..... and will never be a nimble like todays MX'ers.

That is a V-twin Aprillia that Mike posted based off the size of a 450. I heard they have had some issues with those blowing up with very low hours. :ugh2:

That Aprilia is pretty, but its a time bomb from what I here.... and its alot heavier then the Husky... and more expensive.

my DR650SE was great for going to work and back and occasionally riding some dirt paths next to a paved road or two...
it's like an art.. once you ride a real bike.. hence.. motocross... you get an appreciation for the finer suspension, frame, and motor aspects of life. everything else just sucks. :smile:

I woulndt spend 4k on one either......
I bought my 03 w/800 miles on it for 2800....it was as new.....I sold it for 3200 "well used" :headbang:
for me, kraka is right.....at a little less than 5'8" and 160 lbs it was too big and heavy....we lowered it a bit, and shaved the seat it was spot on..still too heavy though
the DRZ is a turd in the woods, but thats what made it such a good beginnier bike....I could never get in trouble with it
but if you dont think it can be fast, even stock......then you must come ride with us and see if you can keep up with Blaster Stevo-O....even the smokers have trouble staying with him
I am so much more than happy with the KTM its not even funny...eventually i'd like to add a stablemate....a nice 200 smoker :headbang:
that husky is super duper sexy though...I love those bikes

I may be getting a 2003 YZ250 soon.... Once I do, I will have to come show you guys how to blaze some trails. :biggrin: When I was racing Mini Moto @ Vegas in my prime, I was clocking 27 second lap time's.... McGrath was putting down 25-26secs. :headbang:
I am a Animal on my Buddys 06 YZ 125 Binger as well. Let me look for a pic.

thats a sxv 550....its a street legal race bike.....the engine is a thing of beauty....most of the issues are basic if handled correctly......this is a high maintance toy, oil changes every 300 miles. its also good to have a Ape tech who knows what there doing.....but the best ride smokin all jap bikes in the turns....and it will do 130 The only supermoto that I would want to have....Unless they sold the Honda FMX 650 in the states
i still think the xv would smoke it....

Out of the last few bikes I've dual sported (KLR650, DRZ400e, YZ250, XR650R) the DRZ was my favorite for around town/trail riding. The XR is king of gravel roads but is a bit heavy, does not have electic start and parts are expensive and sought after. The DRZ is a bit buzzy at highway speeds.

That picture that mike posted looks like that thing is the size of the little 49cc Chinese crotch rockets that they sell for $899. I had no idea it was a twin... LOL.
