East Coast Tropical Wave Alert

yeah... he cut his spinal cord doing that little stunt... he will be in a chair for the rest of his life.... pretty sad that they didn't understand what they were playing with...

The guy on the news was released from the hospital this afternoon. They are saying he was able to walk on his own. http://cbs4.com/video/?id=60737@wfor.dayport.com

I heard in South Beach there was another guy that broke his neck from a bad fall while kiting.

Anyone up for a Monster Hole session early Saturday morning if the wind dies off?

Scott

I imagine that inlet will have all kinds of nasty sewage run-off flowing through there that soon with all the overflow from flooding. The area should be fairly congested with first responders along with mega road closures too. If they still have curfews etc., national guard might be out. I haven't looked recently.

Just a few thoughts.

where are you getting all this doom and gloom from? up here the power has flickered a couple times and there is a little flooding in the usual spots at high tide....nothing else, not even downed trees

Mine only went out three times (during this last band). I'm stilling getting those winds, but nothing else. I didn't see much of anything here, but I understand we have had parts under flood warnings, others under watches in this immediate area.

Looks like you mainly have quite a serious issue with beach erosion. I wouldn't expect any downed trees many places from this storm at all, maybe a few limbs or already weak trees. Savannah supposedly has a few down, but I wouldn't imagine much.

The ways these work, is it just depends on where the feeder bands are hitting. The fact there is so much rain from this thing is what is making everything overflow in many spots. I'm just use to it I guess.

This storm is historically catastrophic from flooding. You can go back through a few of the links I put up, if you felt like weeding through all of it (doubt it...it's not particularly fun). I couldn't begin to tell you all the different sources I have to pull from for prediction or damage honestly. It's mega. I usually have a mobile starship enterprise setup, but it's just this lone monitor. Was pretty brutal.

The cool thing about water is it evaporates. All you have to do is wait and give physics a chance to work. :nana:

So who's up for Monster Hole on Saturday morning?

The not so cool thing about water is that it seems to have some how ruined the driveway down here. It's pebble stone/garage too, and I haven't clear coated it in the past few years like I should have.

I pushed the button, opened it, walked out, and directly where the door raised...it looks like two entirely different stones (and horrid). I have no idea why it would do that...with this rain. It's not like it doesn't rain here all the time, like last week. I'm pretty upset. I don't know what they can do about it. I only hope it looks different in the morning or when it finally dries out...but I can't imagine it will. Makes no sense.

Butti, when I was driving to the store, I thought about Auggie. I will go look at your water situation since I know there was to be flooding there too (and makes sense). Still, you wouldn't have anywhere the same situation as Melbourne. And on the trees, just be careful of any which you know are already weak in your yard (if). Also, pines are extremely suspect to root rot, so keep a good eye on those (all this water and they will just pull right out).

Butti: I thought long and hard about making this "gloom" post.

I worked what was known as the Dead Zone during Katrina. I don’t really wish to talk about it much, but I will tell you that not many first responders were allowed past those particular National Guard for health reasons…because it is exactly what it says…highly lethal/toxic. The gulf has a beyond dead zone, but there are dead zones other places of course..

Water HAS to go somewhere. When it does, it mixes with things you don’t even know (and no one will tell you) exists in the local environment (like fertilizer and radioactive material, lol). I did get a brief education on it before entry into the zone, and I’m no marine scientist, but my layman’s version is this: things die, algae blooms, oxygen is depleted, nitrates are released (what order in all this I don’t recall) and what you end up with in the area (including air) is not good chemically for your body…to say the least. Of course Katrina had decaying bodies mixed into the dead zone, so it was multiplied ten fold. Enough of that, but it gives you a clue. Think about it, there are always vast amounts of dead animals from flooding…they float away…going through their natural process of decay. This, along with our sewage overflow is not a good mixture. E coli and other nasty things are not something I wish to personally absorb.

Overflow goes to the ocean at times like these (any place it can get really). Melbourne will have an issue, whether it is discussed publicly or not, but of course it will not last as long or be anywhere near that of Katrina (still very bad though due to two plus feet of flooding). Jax is a huge city, and it is currently getting pounded (flash floods). For this reason, I retract my statement in the post above about Melbourne being worse than Auggie area with regards to this. I simply don't know...but logic dictates.

I don’t really like talking about any of it in a public forum, but it is important enough to let people know. The water is dangerous due to flooding. You don’t want to be in the water downstream from many coastal manufacturing plants at this time, to say the least. And you could not pay me enough to venture into any of the lakes around here, simply because there is no storm drainage system (Orlando anyhow, maybe the entire state is that way…I would believe so).

It would be nice to not be asked any details. This should be enough. The water will be back to “its norm” soon enough (just not this weekend). Still, people will do what they will. I will wait til things have a chance to flow away myself.

I'm going to go back to being happy now, and hopefully everyone else will. :cool2:

Yikes, I can't imagine how much rain some places are getting. We got around 12" here a couple of years ago and tons of places plus the Ohio River flooded. They're talking over 30" in places.

it has not stopped raining here in 3 days solid at least... Really annoying ********

Brevard got the worst of it... we got probably 10", they got more than 18" and up to 30" in some places

I totally agree. It has rained here since Saturday. It finally quit yesterday & the sun is finally out today. We haven't gotten it as bad as you guys, but it was really starting to wear on my nerves. Now the mosquitos are just worse than ever with all of the standing/stagnant water.
