Engine Build!!!!

Ok. Enough of that hull stuff for now. This is the fun part....:Banane25:
Heres my 61x cylinder with big bore LA Sleeves installed. (85.5mm = 781.933cc's)
After checking that my port height was correct, I marked the centerline of the exhaust side to help keep things straight and even.
Heres the port dividers being cleaned up and the sleeves are ready to be marked.

Sweet color! It looks close to what I went with on my 92SN. Looking awesome... Keep it up.

Thanks Stredman! Pictures dont do it justice, but the color is a pearl metalic thats really more aqua in direct light. It shifts to blue with a kind of purple hue in the shadows. It looks like some exotic House of Colors creation, but it came out of a chip catalogue. I cant remember the name of the company right now....
Anyway, It only took me three months to pick!!

yeah very nice ski. i am getting ready to start my 93 sn build and i like the gas tank idea to fix mine that way. great job cant wait to see it finished.

Thanks for the compliment!!
Just make sure the sealant is ok for use with gasoline and you should be ok.
Its taking much longer to finish this than I planned so I probably wont get to test alot of this stuff til next spring but I'll keep you guys posted.......

Ive been punishing my VXR/pro mercilessly in the surf all summer.
Just hold together for one more weekend...........

Just make sure the sealant is ok for use with gasoline and you should be ok.

I've used yamabond and 5200 for sealant and both ended up at the bottom of the tank after a few rides and ultimately my carbs. What type of sealant are you using?
Nice looking build buy the way...

1211 isn't an adhesive, it is a sealant. How in the world can it peel off if you are using it to seal? Use the 6 screws and only use it as a gasket material.

Plastic Tank Sealant

After doing some research on sealants, I've discovered that most of the silicone based sealants are not recomended for use in gasoline. Some are more resistant than others, but it looks like all of them will fail eventually.
With that in mind, I've decided to redo my tank modification.

I picked up a kit specifically designed to repair plastic fuel tanks at my local Auto Zone.

Thanks to everyone for letting us know about your experiences. It sure would have sucked finding out the hard way!!

Yeah you really need to use a rubber gasket to seal the fuel tank if you are going to use the filler neck like that... I have tried many fuel safe rtv's on a fuel cell I had and nothing lasted. I replaced it with a rubber gasket and it has been good ever since.

Fuel Filler Finished !!!!

Been busy starting up a new business. Haven't had much internet time lately.
I redid the fuel filler.... Finally!
When I first did it I had the gasket installed, but had used an RTV sealer. After all of your posts I decided to redo it. I was going to use a plastic fuel tank repair kit, but realized that it would only work WITHOUT the gasket in place. Didn't feel to comfortable with that so......
I redid it using the gasket and sealed it with Permatex #2.
Its safe to use with just about every kind of fuel except alcohol.

Matt, did you use any kind of sealer at all?
