It had the lanyard on it

Exactly. On "it" and not around the wrist of the rider where it should have been. Can you say "Ghost rider"

Unless of course it drifted away from a mooring and arbitrarily sunk in which case I will retract my statement. Either way, I'd be real curious to hear if the owner gets tracked down and what the story was behind the loss.

that ski would have floated a very long time before sinking completely. maybe it floated down to the dam from up river. could have been parked at the shore and washed away. i saw that happen to a couple blasters last year at windmill cove and a guys X2 got away from his dock, found down stream, impounded and he lost it cause he couldnt come up with the $500 fees. lanyard still on it sounds parked to me.

It was found at least 20 miles upriver from the dam in question. Like mydixiewrecked says, it was very close to a popular campground. I've ridden there in 2010 or 2011.

Some other stuff is starting to surface: http://www.tri-cityherald.com/2014/03/04/2858801/human-remains-found-upstream-from.html
No telling if it's recent. It might be millenia old, who knows.

The dam crack itself is a pretty spectacular story, too.

The crack is in one of the spillway support monoliths:

Check out the bowing on top of the dam: (Not just the circled area, look at the curb stone on the other side, too!)

The crack was initially 2 inches wide. Since lowering the water level in the reservoir by 21 (maybe 26 feet), it has closed to 1 inch. Incredible.
