Enclosed Trailer Thread,

So you don't think lowering the height of the trailer to level or below the cab of the tow vehicle has that much effect on mileage?

I have had a handful of enclosed trailers 5wx8lx4h 6x10x5.5, 6x12x6.5 and a 7x14x6.5. my experience with these has been that the smallest shortest one was little or no different than the biggest. they all pull easy around 65 so you just got to slow down and not worry about it.

The back of mine rusted out and I had to replace a bunch of steel. Read back a couple pages and you can see the details of my half assed repair and attempt to seal the area from area from further damage.

Ouch just saw what you did. How often do you see salt water? I go about once every other month for a few days. This is really making me rethink getting a trailer or shelling money out for all aluminum

We only did probably half a dozen trip to salt in total but the skis were flushed and stored in the trailer all the time.

There is a lip at the back where the plywood buts up against that traps everything. If that area was sealed up or over better so it would wash over it then I don't think you would have any issue. Some have suggested rhino liner or some of that epoxy floor paint.

Well I picked up a trailer today! Its an all aluminum 6x12. Only thing I didnt really like is the ramp door but I can learn to live with it. I couldnt find many all aluminum trailers here in texas but the price was good on this one so I went with it.

It is made by lightning trailers whose parent company is forest river inc. Forest River is huge in the rv industry. I had never heard of lightning until today.

I had to make a quick trip to Savannah today with a load of garage stuff and towed a 4x8 enclosed u-haul. Thing pulled like a dream and I got nearly the same mileage as if I was running empty. The wife and I agreed that if we can find one of those 5x8 enclosed by Haulmark or similar for under $2k, were gonna pull the trigger.

Well I already started insulating my trailer over the weekend. It was a pain getting the plywood off without destroying it since it was both screwed and glued in. I got one whole side done. I will also insulate and cover the ceiling in 1/4" plywood. I will be staining the wood walls in a cherry wood color and painting the trim black. Everyone else in our group paints the walls so I figured I would be a bit different with the stain and it wont show scratches or scuffs as easily. I got rustoleum epoxy garage floor coating to do the floor in. I also ordered e track for bunks. I will post pics when I am done. I have 2 weeks till it has to be ready for the freeride so chop chop.
