Thanks Paul, I couldn't remember the name you told me.

I am thinking of going with Tandem for my next one but I am not sure if I really want the added maintenance of brakes. The 10ft is more than enough space for how I'm using the trailer and my current tow vehicle is only a V6 and quite underpowered.

However, the tandem axle carries almost all the weight and can actually get better mileage. Plus it's bigger and can carry more weight. If I invest the money on an aluminum trailer, it's going to be for life so it may as well be something that can handle anything life can throw at me.

An aluminum 6x12 TA with surge brakes would be a pretty versatile rig. Pro would be versatility, con would be that everyone and their dog would want to borrow it all the time. My brother-in-law moved 6 times last year and will likely do it again this year. I let him use our trailer twice now and it's far more trouble than it's worth to pull everything out just so his sorry azz can save a few bucks.

Our new house won't have room for the enclosed trailer so I stripped out all the bunks so it's more useful for the move and ready for a quick sell afterwards.

Nope. It's no big deal, it's only left our property a handful of times since we bought it and we will be so much closer to our ride spots now that we will likely never use it again either. Really it's just been extra storage space for the last couple years. Proceeds of the sale will go towards a shed for the back yard.

The trailer was a great idea but after all the trouble I had with the engine in my old truck we just never wanted to risk putting it under a heavy load. Then The new truck has a small V6 which barely hails itself around. We still have our aluminum Triton so it's not like we'll miss it either.

How fast do you go? I just did 100 miles on I95 this morning and it struggled to do the speed limit of 70mph. Seemed to like 65 just fine though so I fell in behind a big rig and took my time. It actually handled it much better than I expected. I had both the truck and trailer loaded down pretty good with work benches, cabinets and tools but I still say the biggest load comes from the height of the trailer. It's sure nice to be able to stand up inside the trailer but a lower height trailer would reduce so much wind drag.

I'm looking into a lower set of gears for this truck. It's fantastic once it gets up and going but could really use some help on the bottom end.

I know nothing about trucks, but could you just swap a different rear end? On my lil 4cyl turbomazdas I swap in the gear sets from a probe v6 to get my Rpms lower on the highway. Otherwise I am at 3600rpm at 80 mph in fifth.

You could swap the rear end in the ram, but i believe Boyer has a v6 2wd ram...so say you update the a 3/4 rear axle, now you have different bolt patterns front and rear. Front would be 5 lug and rear would be 8 lug I think. You could re-gear the rear diff, but that's such a pain in the butt, especially if you arent pulling the trailer a lot. And it would still have an underpowered v6 in it.

I pull my trailer with a 2012 colorado inline 5. 70-75 mph is a good cruising speed.

I'm so happy for you both. I wonder how much torque that inline puts out? Typically inline motors put out decent torque and lug very well where similar displacement v6's need rpm's to make any power.

My engine has the same HP specs as yours but with a 1000lb higher curb weight and likely much taller gearing and I run 20's instead of the factory 17's. I also had my truck and trailer loaded significantly higher than I would normally had I just been hauling skis. I had to put 45lbs in my airbags to get the truck back to level and 50lbs in the trailer tires and they were still bulging. Considering the towing capacity of the truck is only 3050lbs, I'd say I was pretty close if not well over it. I guess I'm just spoiled from all the years I owned BB 460's, Cummins and V10's. If it means anything, I always thought the 4.7 V8 was a bit of a dog at towing too.

Getting back to some of the comments above, no need to swap axles, just the ring and pinion gears in the rear end. Not sure on this exact axle but on my bigger trucks, you could swap the entire carrier in a couple hours and never even have to worry about resetting backlash. Available gear sets are 3.55 and 3.92. I believe mine has the 3.92's.

Mine is the 3.7 inline 5 with 242hp and 242 torque and has the towing package. It says it can pull 6,000 pounds. Ive probably pulled close to 2,500 loaded down. Obviously you can tell its back there but the truck does very well.

I know my old truck with a 4.3 v6 wouldnt move with 2,500 pounds behind it. Haha

Listed the trailer on Craigslist Tuesday night and watched it roll away today at full asking price.

We were going to put the funds towards a bigger storage shed in the back yard but I just found out our new HOA doesn't allow outbuildings so I'm on the hunt for a Haulmark 5x8 Flex Flyer...Truck should handle this just fine.

Damn HOAs

Yuppers, 2190sqft of house and none of that extra space was put towards external storage or extra garage space. I might be able to add storage if I build right off the back of the house. It will have to match the brick on the rest of the house so it's gonna be a damn expensive addition if I do it.

New trailer is easier. It'll pull easier, get better mileage and be short enough to not be seen behind the fence. :)
