I see a few names listed saying "Let this guy do the work". Some are new, some do more composite type work, or sell hard parts. But where is their actually experience? Who trained them? That is something to ask and think about.
I think Brian at Thrust went to MMI. And as far as the poll, detract one from LPW and add it to Thrust. I somehow hit the wrong radio button when I voted. My opinion, for what it is worth.......
I personally would stick with one of the better known builders that has not been involved in any controversy. Call them. Talk to them. They all build very nice motors from what I have heard. Compare apples and the cost of the apple also.
Brian At Thrust Innovations has been working with rick roy and eric malone for the past 5 yrs i believe and has been building for them and working with them on a first hand basis. I believe that if his skills and knowledge are good enough for the two of the best riders ever, both freeride and flatwater i would have to say he can build me a ski anytime, and actually he built my blaster and i cant say one badthing about it. he is extremely knowledgable in the freestyle and freeride set-ups and also makes alot of other freestyle parts. So in my opinion I would go Thrust, Great service, knowledge, and prices..........
your not by any chance related to him are you? okey:
I thought u liked my LPW 701 so much that u bought it? I am NOT discounting Thrust at all!
When i go with a motor, its gonna be a year or so because my new limited set-up has plenty of power for me, but i believe i will be going with a x-scream motor.I really like the guys down there and pat has never treated me wrong and i have done alot of bussiness with him.Chuck @ x-scream knows his shiot.i talked to him in daytona and he sounded very well educated with motors. Now this doesnt mean i dont like the other motor companys,i just have a good 'relationship' with x-scream.
Umm...I'm confused then. What was the first post in this thread?
"I am wanting have a bigger motor built but not sure who to use.
LPW
Team Scream
JetWorks
Thrust Innovations
I have ridden a couple LPW motors and really liked em."
Jared, you have to ask your self some questions. What do you want out of your motor? What is your budget? Are you willing to build your ski up with the package that the shop you choose recommends. If the third question is not going to be followed, then just flip a coin. You would be happy either way..
as far as the first two questions goes.
Each shop has its specialty, or niche. There are many more out there than you listed.
I have ridden motors built by all of those except Thrust Innovations. But I would not hesitate to do have Brian build me one. Why? Because he focuses only on freestyle.
I could personally go with any of them.
But, For my riding style and my use. I would go with X Scream, LPW (My current setup) or Thrust. Why? their focus is more on Freestyle. I will also go out farther and say LPW's setups or more freeride based. That is Pauls specialty. Look at how many west coast riders run his motors. Does that mean Paul cannot build a good flat water setup? Not at all. I have ridden several of his that ripped your arms off. Now, some are gonna say, why not Jetworks? Art builds one hell of a package, I have ridden several of his motors. They pull strong from Bottom all the way through Top. Hell, one of Crammits had way more power than I could ever use, very impressive. But, I feel builder has their Niche, To me, Art's is more recreation and race setup. If I was racing a SJ still, he would be the top of the list.
As far as others out there not listed.
Steve Webster - Kommander
Keith Head - Head Enterprises
Wammer - Gil, did you ride Jeff Lutkers silver ski........ That ski ran OEM 38's and hit so much harder than my 84mm Big Bore. Wammer has a great port spec for 701 motors.
Riva - Rec Riding to racing only.
ZForce - I know Tim and his work...... For SXR Limited, he would be my first choice.
Hurricane Racing - Bill Haig has been around longer than any one person active on this board or any other for that matter. He is an incredible builder, but only racers would know of him.
TLR - Damn, wish Todd still did ski's!!!!!!!!! He was good enough for Rick Roy, nuff said. My TLR cylinder is sitting in my shop as my backup.
Watcon - I know he can build a hell of a motor. For Racing, I could not have a second thought using Randy.
Judge Motorsports. You want to go really fast on a Blaster or 15F? Nuff Said.
Ultimate Watercraft/TBM - Race spec only. Would not hesitate to call.
ProTec - No experience, but again, they know their stuff. Look at MacCluggage and Tera Laho. They dominated under them.
Now, do you see a pattern?
There are plenty of good builders. But which one is best for you? Who knows, what do you want out of them.
Team Scream!
More Chuck For Your Buck.
My last ski's motor was a Screamer.
So was my last girlfriend.
.I had an LPW 701 at one point as well....that motor ripped in my 365lb ski!!!
I'd rock one of those in a heartbeat again
I would like to throw DASA/Lamey into the mix as well for your big motor consideration.
Looking for a billet engine case?
Brian
No one has mentioned...
Why not Dasa Racing (Lamey)?
Original creators of the Superjet aftermarket cylinder.
I'm another voter for Xscream.
I built SJ13's 771 screamer, and watched Pranceswithsuperjet build his xscream 701. I'm running an Xscream intake setup (46's w/ modified manifold) on my NON Xscream built 793 (8mm stroker). Both the 771 and 701 are only slightly less powerful than my stroker - and my motor is no slouch.
I have run two (2) other LPW Lamey motors (85.5mm bore, stock stroke) that felt about the same as the Xscream 771 and 701. My 8mm stroker didn't come to life until I bolted on my Xscream intake set-up (I had 48mm NOVI's on there before). Now it is crisp and clean ALL THE TIME!
Like some people have mentioned before, the relationship with the builder is extremely important. Radney is great to talk to on the phone, and Chuckie is amazing! I usually fill up half a sheet of paper writing down what he says when I talk to him.
Oh, and I guess that Pat Bogart fella has ridden a couple of times...
