F-neXt-1

Wow...thanks for the nice comments! And thanks to Gordon (Flash) for the OLD shot of this ski. It's a fitting mod for my original FX......it served me well until the Franky and Orange FXs came along!

This setup was done so that I can easily slip an 1100 into it if the 900 works out well. The 900 and 1100 are the same externally and it would bolt right it. I already had the 900 kickin' around the shop and thought it would be a good start. It hasn't been wet yet but should be ready to splash this weekend......all that's left is turfing the bottom of the tray and corner of the rails. Everything else is hooked up and she cranks over......so, hopefully a ride report this weekend!!!

The center of gravity should be pretty damn close to stock since I relocated the tray bulkhead back 1.5" and by using stock Kawi couplers, the engine center of gravity is almost identical to the stock 701. It uses a 5 gal 750sx tank and I fab'd up an adapter to run the b-pipe on it. It surprising how well all this junk fits but it actually has almost as good accessibilty as stock.

I can hardley wait to dial the "3" carbs.....wish me luck!!!

Thanks for the pics Chief!!!

It did well for it's first run but I definitely need to dry out the exhaust some...it's very quiet but very restrictive. I'll do a little re-plumbing tomorrow and give it another go. The extra weight doesn't seem to effect the handling at all....it was instantly comfortable and familiar.

A quickie update......I added two bypasses and diverted some water out of the mufflers and it woke right up! Response is good, it idles well and the powerband is incredibly smooth, it feels like an electric motor! It is still a little muddy at topend though and I think I'm going to have to play with the high speed jets a bit to get it singin' at topend.....not too bad though for taking an engine and just dropping it in with a chamber that has never been run on one before!

Got to ride 2 tanks through it yesterday in head high (or better) surf and it's a really good surf boat......something I didn't really expect!

The odd thing it is that there's no signs of heat on either end of the rod, no scoring in the cylinder, no signs of water intrusion, both bearings are still free and smooth and there's a nice film of oil on everything......guess it just decided to let go for the F of it??
