The Yamaha video above from Rixter is 100% a Japanese factory, and in the video from Finn we can see a "Made in Japan" sticker on the hood just like my 701. The TR-1 engine says made in Shizuoka, Japan as well.

@yamaharider85 - I've worked on these analyses a bit. There are specific rules around being able to claim a product is Made in ___ vs Assembled in ___ and has to do with the percentage of total value of parts and assembly being done in that country. When they say Made in Austria, it does not mean 100% of the parts and assembly have to be made there.
In the case of your KTM, the final assembly and many of the precision parts are made in Austria but a few rubber hoses may be made in China. I have actually been surprised when buying replacement parts that how many (even a small rubber part) are actually made in Austria or Italy. Glad to see they haven't farmed too much out to China. Or, I suppose it is possible the original was made in Austria but replacement parts are not.

I did buy the bike new and the tire tubes are the only things that failed me. Only part I found that were not Euro parts go figure ‍♂️

Im really surprised the throttle cable isnt fly by wire also this ski needs turf right away. I heard they are only sending 800 units so this baby beluga is an endangered species right off the bat.

I agree, the turf situation looks like a disaster.
Kommander just posted photos on their instagram with jettrim turf installed. It looks good. They have a full graphics kit and bars on it already too!

I think it’s absolutely awesome finnegan is into stand ups (he also has like a 2000hp boat - check YouTube it’s cool). I grew up reading hot rod magazine and finnegan and frieburger were commonly the article authors. They are both writers for most of the magazines owned by that group. His review is probably super relevant to most people just starting out. Hopefully stuff like this helps grow the hobby.

When i worked at the Kawasaki factory in Lincoln, NE where all their bikes, ATV, and Jetskis are made/assembled, they made the hulls at the factory(hand laid and 30 ft. SMC hull mold stamping tower), but all parts were made in Japan and shipped over for assy. The engines were assembled in Missouri then shipped to Lincoln, but all parts came from Japan.

I dont know how Yam is doing it, but probably about the same scenario I'm guessing.

Problem is that the 15f and 12f motors are identical in physical size. The 12f uses a shorter stroke crank and longer rods. Externally they are exactly the same size and weight. Kawi should take a zx6 motor, stroke it and run a longer intake runner on it. Thats the same recipie (zx12r+stroke) they used on the 15f motor and its worked since 2004.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the numbers as this isn’t a one off model. I’m sure the 800 is just the first run. So if you can just wait till next year and get one at normal msrp. No way Yamaha could justify the production cost of only making it for one year and only 800.

Hopefully the preorder numbers give them an indication of the demand. Then they can true up from their initial forecast. If they make a 1k units world wide and get 600 or so preorders, it seems like they could increase production in the winter / early spring time frame for the 2021 model year. This is where dealer's additional markup could throw things off. If dealers have huge additional markups, people will hold off pre orders and purchases. Imagine if Yamaha said all pre orders by Sept 1 lock in MRSP :)

I found out my Gen 2 X2 was made in Lincoln, NE then shipped to Japan to be sold. Then it was imported back to America and sold to a guy in...........Lincoln, NE. Then the ski was brought to AZ and eventually purchased by me. I'm from Omaha, NE. Small world.
