First picture of 2021 Waverunner including Superjet

I thought the TR-1 was 125-130hp. Is this a de-tuned version? Easy to turn that power back on, then?

Great video. He weighed all 3 generations with a full tank of fuel:
Modified 94 SJ = 346lbs. 40mph.
2020 SJ = 353lbs. 43mph top speed (in choppy water).
2021 SJ = 441lbs. 54mph top speed.

Aluminum 3 bar intake grate (plastic on the 2020), no scoop.
I wonder if the rear drain plugs mean there is no foam in the rear to be waterlogged?
He still gets pushed over by the boat wake... must not be that stable.
Looks super peppy coming out of the hole and getting up on plane.
Oh I just noticed... no rooster tail on the 2021??
Yamaha finally went to an AGM battery out of the box.

He said riding all 3 back to back that he loves the 2021 and how Yamaha executed on it.

It has some growl at 11:58:

Good call out on the drain plugs. Im sure it has foam back there but the styrofoam version like sitdowns vs expanding foam that soaks up water. Look at that shot behind the battery in the video review above and you see styrofoam, it might go all the way back (no bulkhead)

AGM battery? Sweet!

It looks to have a waterbox and sound suppressor. I am sure 85% of new owners will rip the sound suppressor out

I am hoping to pickup the oe steering cheap when one of yall swaps to something more blingy

Sean

I think most will keep the pole, it's the steering plate and bars that will be changed. Those look like same parts. It will be interesting to see how the pump design is. It is a 144mm pump - hoping the pump stator is upgraded

Does the top deck come off? They show the motor going in without the top deck and then what looks to be gluing and clamping the deck down.
What does that mean for working on the damn thing? Besides that it ain't going to be any better than previous models, lol.

I figured they assemble this way because it is faster on the assembly line. But I was also curious if the engine would fit out through the top deck opening...

Where are these manufactured. Thanks
Engines are made in Shizuoka, Japan. The entire SuperJet is assembled in Japan as well, but I'm not sure where the final assembly location is.
All Made in Japan!

Yes, the engines fit through the top hull (they have to for repair / replacement). Like you mentioned, it is just for faster assembly.
Would be nice to "pop the top off" to make repairs ourselves

The RN SJs were all made in Japan but that could be because of the two stroke and free trade laws. I wonder if the SJ4 are/ will be made in Japan

See my comment above, yes the engine and ski are Made in Japan.

Question now is Kawa going to release a new smaller standup ski? :D

Personally, I would LOVE to see Kawi answer back with a smaller SXR hull ( around the same size as the SJ4) using the stx12f engine (1200cc four stroke) instead of the 1500. That would turn up the competition and level the playing field a bit more.

Will it happen? You can almost guarantee it will not happen, but one can dream right...

I am biased, but i think the SXR is spot on. It could be made lighter but the length really helps it ride over chop and remain flat and in the power. SJ defiantly out maneuvers it, but the 1500’s power and total package of the SXR is hard to beat. Looks much better too.

Yeah i thought my KTM was 100% Austria but then when I had to change a tube I found out the tube was 100% made in china. Now whos going to get their new baby beluga (sj4) first?

Thinking this are being made in Georgia or Tn. .
I would have guessed the same based on the current Waverunner production being in Georgia. However all past SJ were Made in Japan and shipped over.

The Yamaha video above from Rixter is 100% a Japanese factory, and in the video from Finn we can see a "Made in Japan" sticker on the hood just like my 701. The TR-1 engine says made in Shizuoka, Japan as well.

@yamaharider85 - I've worked on these analyses a bit. There are specific rules around being able to claim a product is Made in ___ vs Assembled in ___ and has to do with the percentage of total value of parts and assembly being done in that country. When they say Made in Austria, it does not mean 100% of the parts and assembly have to be made there.
In the case of your KTM, the final assembly and many of the precision parts are made in Austria but a few rubber hoses may be made in China. I have actually been surprised when buying replacement parts that how many (even a small rubber part) are actually made in Austria or Italy. Glad to see they haven't farmed too much out to China. Or, I suppose it is possible the original was made in Austria but replacement parts are not.
