Good idea. My brother and I defoamed ours this past winter. Filled the trays with water after 5200'ing everything. It took mine 3 different times of filling with water/emptying and drying everything off and redoing 5200 to finally stop all the leaks. You would be surprised how easy water can find its way through the smallest holes. Just glad I did that before sealing everything back up.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the heads up on testing as I go. Now that you say that I will definitely test again in the pool before sealing the tray. And like you said even though I’m going to make sure this thin is 100% sealed when I’m done I do like the idea of having drains back there just so I know if I’m getting water in there at some point and it’ll be easily drained if there is. No plans on adding foot straps yet especially since the foot holds are already there.

I cut the tray out leaving a 2” border along the walls to give me enough to fiberglass the tray back in without having to pull all the hydroturf. With that said and after me messing with it this afternoon it would be way easier with the entire tray including the sides cut out. This is where I’m at right now I’m hoping to finish getting all the foam out tomorrow after work.

The pool test is a great idea but also fill the tray with water. That will insure you sealed it properly inside the tray. When I filled mine, I was leaking water into the engine compartment from the steering tube.

If you decide to remove it all including the rails you may as well do a Rickter type wide tray install with adjustable holds. My brother just did his 07. He can send you pictures.

I filled the tray tonight and found the leak or the main leak I should say. Turns out if was my poopty patch job that I did over the scupper hole. That was 95% of the leak which wasn’t getting into the tray so of course I kind of cut the tray out for no reason. But there was a drip coming out of one of my pump shoe screws which I thought I sealed pretty good with 5200. It’s either that or coming from the bottom of my steering tube. Either way they’re both getting resealed and tested. I’m going to work on sanding out my patch job and redo it this week. I’m hoping to get back on the water within the next two weeks.

Got all the foam and old scupper tube out. Just have to wait for decent weather to re patch the scupper tube hole and water test it again.

I’m hoping to have it done sometime this week or next weekend.

So obviously never finished that weekend and due to it raining every day here in Florida I didn’t want to lay fiberglass with it being wet outside. But the stars finally aligned and I was able to make a move on getting this thing back on the water. I also added a bilge pump while I was working on it too.

Did a leak test before putting it back together.

I probably could’ve spent more time sanding but since turf is covering it I didn’t really care. Put a layer of 1708 with 3oz mat on top.

All turfed up and ready to go. Again...

So I was finally able to get it out on the water today. And my face is sore from smiling. I’m absolutely horrible at riding but still had a blast and just have to get past the learning curve. One thing I wish I had done that I saw a lot of people doing and it didn’t make sense to me was add padding underneath the turf. My knees are absolutely killing me, by the end of the day it felt like I was kneeling in concrete.

I have no problem riding while kneeling but tend to over correct while standing a feeling the ski tip. I did get better as the day went on, I feel like it’s just a muscle memory deal. I did stab the throttle once and I felt like it almost got ripped out of my hands so I’m definitely happy with the power although I don’t really have anything to compare it too other than sit downs, but it feels like it’s got way more low end than any sit down I’ve ridden so far.

Hey Buddy. You will get it down. To me the way the Superjet likes to turn is you turn the handle bars which turns the nozzle which constitutes your input for the turn. Your body must ANTICIPATE the lean and arc of that turn and lean accordingly to ACCOMODATE it.

Compare with the 550sx, where, IMHO, your body is the initial input to lean the ski and the handle bars and nozzle accommodate the carve that your body has initiated.

Thanks! I know, just have to ride as much as possible, and that's the plan now that it's done :) I'm thinking of switching to the straight bars since I have runabout handlebars on it now. I don't know if I should keep riding the way it is until I get the hang of it or just switch now to see if it helps. I compared the two side by side and the runabout bars are about 2" longer on each side. Not that it'll take long to do, I'll just bring them with me and swap them out a couple of times to see what I like better. Every time I stood on the ski on dry land I felt like the handle pole was too short so the runabout bars came back towards me a little. But I was also standing on a level surface and didn't account for the ski riding with the nose slightly up.

Oh I forgot to mention I picked up a couch beach cart for $150 from someone that said it came with their Jetski when they bought it and just wanted it out of their house.

The bunks were for a sit down and we’re 21” apart, I thought about cutting and re-welding but by the time I would’ve gotten a regulator and argon tank it wouldn’t have been worth it so a 2x4 is doing the trick for now.

Also two tires weren’t holding air and instead of spending $80 per tire I just found some inner tubes on eBay for $11 each and that’s working perfectly. Just had to add a hole for the inner tube valve stem since the one for the tire was facing straight up.

Back to straight bars for now. I like the way the runabout bars look more cause of the bar pad, I feel like it looks bare now but I’ll stick with whatever feels better on the water.

Didn't really notice a difference between the straight bars and runabout bars, but I'm leaving the straight bars on cause I'm lazy lol. I finally did a couple of full throttle pulls and it's kind of scary but I dig it. After about 30 minutes of riding it seemed to be loading up on fuel slightly, I turned the highspeed adjustment in a little and that seemed to help. I'm gonna go one size down on jetting for both high and low and try again to see how it feels. I can also standup long enough to justify wearing the gopro and got some video from today. Along with what I consider it to have been loading up on fuel.

When your ski keeps doing a lean runaway no matter how many turns out you have it. Make sure you reconnected the pulse line.

Swapped 140 mains and 70 pilots from 145 mains and 72.5 pilots before.

Alright new jets are in just have to get it back in the water. Maybe tomorrow.

Anyone know what could be causing it to bounce off the rev limiter under full throttle? Last week I didn't seem to have an issue bouncing off the limiter although I didn't really stay on the throttle too long, but when I did it seemed to be pulling a lot harder. I checked to make sure the intake grate was clear a couple of times and didn't find anything in it. Just trying to get some ideas before throwing a new wear ring in it. Can the oem stainless steel wear rings actually wear out? Any possibility of it being a tuning issue? Possibly from running lean? Not enough impeller? It's got a skat swirl 9/15 ( I wasn't paying attention and didn't notice it wasn't a hooker impeller) Comparing the video from last week (3:51 into the video) to today it seems to be a big difference. The only changed was the jetting.
