First Stand-Up/Superjet

I haven't touched anything for the ski yet. But I did some more research on using the VXR Pro pump which I luckily kept and found out it's the same pump as the superjet! When I looked before I was researching using a WR3 pump which is different and assumed it was the same as the VXR Pro. So that's saves me a good chunk of money. And I'm also using the midshaft housing and just getting a superjet shaft and since I have access to a press at work I'll rebuild the midshaft housing. I just have to find a superjet driveshaft as well and my whole pump situation will be done. This also means I can install my pump shoe! So I hoping to dig into it this week or next. I feel like I'm a hell of a lot closer to getting this thing in the water now.

Had to do a quick mock up of everything just to see.

Man i cant wait to see this thing done . Keep up with the good work man,its looking good

Thanks man! Finding out that pump is the same got me motivated again.

And now for the midshaft for which I couldn’t really find a write up for so we’re gonna figure it out as we go.

There’s supposed to be two seals on the rear and this one was missing one. It also looks like someone blew out the rear seal by forcing too much grease into it.

With the grease cleared away we can see a bit better

Now to press the shaft out I found a 5/8” impact socket was the same diameter as the shaft and used that along with a hydraulic press to press it out.

To get the rear seal out was a pain in the ass and after trying with a screwdriver unsuccessfully I realized a wrench was the tool for this. Again there’s supposed to be another seal on top of this one.

This is what it looks like under that seal

Now for the the front seal, again a wrench made short work of this seal

Using snap ring pliers remove both snap rings from either side of the bearing. I found a 36mm impact socket was the same diameter as the bearing and pressed it out.

And with that done I tried to get the coupler off the shaft, since we’re not using this shaft I used a vise to try and hold it in place which didn’t end well for the vise lol.

That’s all for today since I have to wait for the rebuild kit, and also wait for a new vise to come in.

And in preparation for the parts I ordered I finally got the rotating assembly together. I decided to paint the motor black to go with my blue ADA head. I used paint stripper which did an ok job of getting the old paint off. But sand blasting probably would’ve been easier and more thorough.

I used regular black spray paint over engine enamel so we’ll see how long it last, I’m too worried about it to be honest though.

Also got the parts in for the midshaft and due to being in a rush I didn’t take pictures of assembling the midshaft but it’s the same as disassembling it. Painted these black as well.

And finally the motor put together for the most part with new crank seals. Waiting on my order to get here before final assembly. And the piston rings don’t catch on the ports!

Parts showed up! I was able to get my hands on a brand new limited factory pipe, and from the many phone calls I made I think it was the last one anywhere until late January early February. I also picked up an ADA head in blue.

And to help anyone out in the future to put the girdled studs in I used two nuts tightened down on each other to make sure the studs were set all the way down. All you’re doing is snugging the studs in place, do not torque them down tightly. But this just helps to get them down a little easier with out destroying the finish on the studs with pliers. Also do not tighten the bottom nut all the way down to the bottom of the threads. Just low enough that the top nut is fully threaded then back the bottom nut out until it touches the top one and they’ll tighten into each other not letting one or the other move.

Not much to update. Just collecting parts at this point still. I did however pick up a welder since I’ve always wanted to learn but never had a reason to purchase a welder.

After probably 10 hours of watching YouTube videos and picking a Lincoln mig welder I’ve completed my first project, which happens to be a hitch hauler. I still have to paint it so it doesn’t rust. Next one the list is an aluminum beach dolly, but I’ll wait until the ski is done for that one since I’ll need an argon tank to weld aluminum.

Otherwise I picked up some Rhaas mounts and a driveshaft. So technically minus a pump rebuild kit I have the entire driveline. I also picked up a new oem pump stator section for crazy cheap.

Still making slow progress.

First trip with the hitch hauler went well even though it still a bare hull

And added some decals to make the hull less empty looking. Also getting it ready to paint the bottom with appliance epoxy which should happen tomorrow after work.

Finally ordered the cold fusion hood hooks and prongs and got the hull buttoned up.

Thanks! The little things are getting expensive lol. Anyone have a good starting point on jetting for the carbs? 82mm 61x cylinder with mild porting, stock 62T bottom end, Ada head with 35cc domes, limited factory pipe, dual 38mm carbs with chokes removed and carbon tech low tension reed petals.

Yeah I think I’m going to leave them off for now and maybe save them for later when I start getting scratches on it.

Getting close to being done now. Got a starting point with my carbs, starting with 72.5 pilot jets, 145 mains and 1.5 needle and seat. I wanted to go with 70 pilots and 140 mains but these were the closest that SBT had in stock. The jets are the only thing from SBT by the way, I went with genuine mikuni rebuild kits.

Got the pump back together and gonna start out with a 9/15 skat swirl. I did my research after I bought the prop and realized I should’ve went with a different pitch as 9/15 is better suited for a hooker prop. But it was cheap and it’s a starting point.

I’m thinking I’ll be able to start it up next week sometime. I have a big order coming from Jetmaniac that should be here Wednesday or Thursday which is a bunch of the smaller stuff I needed and his waterbox. As of now the only things I can think of that I need are an intake grate and battery. And then all the small misc stuff like straps and a bilge pump.

Here’s where it sits as of 10 minutes ago.
