First Stand-Up/Superjet

Tuesday's are my only days to get a lot of work done on this thing, so today I'm wet sanding and buffing it. Probably going to lay down the turf too, if I have enough time. The wet sanding has been done already started with 1000, then 1500, and finishing with 2000 grit. I'm also going to scuff everywhere that's getting turf with 60 grit which is going to remove the paint but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Here's how it's sitting as of now after sanding.

looking good! you wont regret scuffing your hull up so the turf sticks properly! just make sure you tape around everywhere you don't want to accidentally sand or get glue on! Easier to peel tape than get glue off your new paint! GL

Yeah I figure I might as well do it right the first time instead of possibly having issues with the turf peeling up. You better believe I taped it all down lol no way in hell I'm taking a chance scratching the paint.

Alright so buffing took way longer than I wanted it to, I didn't sand with 1500 and 2000 grit well enough so I had some deeper scratches from the 1000 grit. I didn't get them all out but good enough for me. Did a 5 stage buff and I'm definitely happy with the end results, way less orange peel.

I completely forgot about the nose piece but it shows a good before and after.

And the finished product along with everything I used, I had all this detailing stuff from back when I had a nice car, I'm glad I never sold all this stuff.

And also scuffed everything for the turf, which I'll do next Tuesday most likely.

Started porting the 61x cylinders tonight, hoping to get a lot more done tomorrow, this is what one sanding bit did for me I'll have to get more tomorrow. This is using the Race Logic template found on this site. Again this is just the start of the porting still have a lot more to do once I get more sanding bits.

Didn't get a chance to touch the motor today, as putting on the turf absolutely kicked my ass. It looks like crap and I just want to be done with it, this is one of the few things I would gladly pay somebody else to do. This is definitely not my cup of tea, the gaps are a lot bigger than I would've liked but trying to get it back off was a huge pain. It also didn't hide the imperfections in the tray as well as I thought it would.

You are ok buddy. I wonder if there is upholstery or automotive or marine piping which would clean up the edges where the two colors meet?

Thanks, I'm most likely going to leave it the way it is. I sure door edge guards or something similar would work but I'm not sure if it would look any better.

Finished porting the cylinders, those aren't gouges on the edge of the ports just where the dremel slipped out. The flash makes it look like chunks are missing.

Thanks! Sorry for the delay Irma knocked out power for a while for me. This was my first time doing any kind of porting, and with the template and instructions from here it was fairly easy since you're only removing a small amount of material at a time. Things are going to slow down a bit at this point for the build, as everything else I need at this point is for the motor and going to be expensive. But I'll update when anything new happens.

Slowly but surely at this point. Ordered 82mm ProX pistons, as soon as they get here I’ll drop the cylinders off to get bored out.

Finally got my cylinders back. I still have to chamfer the ports which will probably be done tomorrow. I’d like to focus on getting the motor completely together first, still have to get an ADA head and see if I can get my hands on a new Factory Pipe. But still need a few things for the hull too. With Christmas coming up this is going to be put on the back burner but not forgotten.

mah man! looking good! finally just picked up a SN but the front has been rockered so it doesn't look as old lol...its in a thousand pieces but basically all there. already has footholds in it too. may returf after I pick it up. I picked up the parts today. Theres basically three or more of everything, lol.. three eboxes, one msd enhancer, three poles, a B pipe chamber, a pro-tec chamber, etc etc etc.. still have to go through all the parts. its got a 701 62T/62T... Hoping that's at least decent. Ski has 4 brand new motor mounts, a brand new midshaft and hull bearing, a spare RN hood that im selling to recoup some cash, and then tons of other stuff.
My build will surely take longer than yours, but I can at least say I now own a Yamaha.

Is that 62T/62T any good?

Good stuff! Welcome to the dark side lol. Sounds like you have a bunch of really good parts already. All you have to do is put it back together I’m assuming? I’ve always loved the way the rockered fronts on the square noses. I’m no expert by any means but from what I’ve read the 62t/62t is better on the top end and the 61x is better on the low end. But hell you’re doing a lot better than me at this point. Since you already have the motor throw it together and ride it then start building a motor for what will suit your needs later.

yea its literally in a thousand parts...lol the only thing I think im missing, which I may not be, is an actual exhaust manifold, which I saw I can get for like 26.00 for a stock one. The only problem I may end up with is, since ive never owned one, which bolts and sizes go where.. I may have a ton of extra bolts for some stuff and not enough for others.
The hull is actually pretty clean and was reinforced with "Bilax?" or whatever that other stuff is that isn't carbon?
I'll tell ya right now though, I would definitely trade all these goods and some cash for a Round nose.
