First Stand-Up/Superjet

What's up guys, I figured I'd start a thread about my first stand-up ski which I decided on a superjet after some research. I picked up my fist sit down jet ski last year and shortly after discovered the sport of surf riding on a stand-up and it was all over with after that. Now I'm putting this together on a budget but trying not to cut corners on anything at the same time, yeah just like everyone else. I fell in love with the RN and waited for one to pop up for sale in my area and not cost an arm and a leg. Now for my price range I knew I'd be jumping into a project and that's exactly what I picked up. I'll have a bunch of questions along the way I'm sure but I promise I am Google literate and will spend some time searching before asking any questions to avoid asking something that's been asked a million times.

So a little about the ski, it's an 01 with an Xscream handle pole, and what the previous owner believes to be an Xscream hood as well but he wasn't sure (I'm hoping someone here will recognize the hood?). Other than that this is a completely bare hull and I'll need some help with different bolt lengths and thread patterns so I can get some stainless steel replacements. This ski was setup with a side exit exhaust coming out the middle of the side which I'll be patching up and running a rear exit exhaust. It's got some questionable holes in it elsewhere that again I'm someone on here can help figure out why. Anyway what's a build/put back together thread without some pictures right?

On the way home.

On some tires until I build a stand

Question: The previous owner removed the exhaust exit pipe and I can't one for sale anywhere, anyone know the offical name for this pipe? Or where I can order one?

Now this is the extra holes I was talking about, shouldn't the intake grate bolt into the two holes on the right? So why is there holes in the middle of the pump tunnel above where the shaft goes? I'm filling and patching those as well, and I'll have to fix up where the intake grate bolts to a little as well.

The footholds seem to be a little too far back for me, but then again I've never had the chance to stand on another ski. Does this seem to be in the right spot? I feel like I'm leaning too far forward when my feet are in and I'm holding on to the handle pole.

And lastly the stupid side exit exhaust hole. To patch this I'm thinking of laying some 3oz cloth over the outside and then layering 1708 on the inside. Does this sound like the best way to patch it? I don't think just filling it with cabosil will be strong enough, but I was also thinking of filling it with chopped up 3oz and epoxy.

You can also use pvc. or any muffler shop will have tubing.

As far as footholds that is all user preference. I have no idea why it has the 2 extra holes in the intake.

No PVC in the exhaust, never, ever.

I figured pvc would get too hot, although I'm on a budget I don't want to half ass anything here. Made a little progress yesterday and got the exhaust hole patched then sanded the exhaust exit that the previous owner patched with fiberglass. I'm going to leave the footholds where they are for now and see how I feel about them after I take it for a ride, which is still a while away. I'm giving myself 3 month to get this in the water. I still have to source a motor though, I'm hoping to find an old waveraider on craigslist that someone forgot about and just wants to get rid of.

Best bet would be to find a donor couch for a motor/ebox and electronic bits. VXR pro, waveraider 701, etc.

Right now is when you should be looking for a donor ski, it will save you the headache of trying to source all the little pieces you are gonna need. You can probably find one with a blown engine cheap and then rebuild that engine depending on the damage. 90% of the parts you need will be there.

That's the plan, I picked up an old 1996 Waverunner 3 for $50 but it had a 650 in it so I'm going to use the electronics, and carb if I need to. But I think that's about the only thing that I can use on the superjet right? I know the crank will work in a 701 too but I'd rather get a complete motor if I can.

650 cdi is too low rpm limiter. carb on a 650 i believe is too small unless its a 44.

I'll measure the carb tomorrow and find out I guess. Still hoping to find a complete ski that I can use everything out of but if not I'll replace the cdi box and use everything else.

Now we play the waiting game. Ordered the through hull exhaust pipe from Rad dudes along with a battery tray. And then a bunch of little odds and ends from Blowsion. Hoping to get something in this week or next. But I also picked up a 97 waveraider that I'll use the motor and electronics from. Otherwise I'm at a stand still waiting for the exhaust so I can fill the footholds and around the exhaust with foam and then finish laying fiberglass so I can paint it.

Just a picture of the donor motor ski, cause pictures make everything better!

Awesome stuff..
This is my first standup too. Been riding semi-couches for a few years (HX) but just took on a standup in September. Was a COMPLETE turnkey restore with upgrades.. so I'll be following this one as to see it from scratch, as there's a rental place about 4 minutes from here that rents couches out but they have a sweet looking yellow/purple/white super jet on their roof (not sure what year, but it's definitely a bare hull) and I'm thinking of stopping by and making an offer on it.. or even offering them a newer couch hull that I can find for cheap and see if they'll put that on their building as they don't rent stand ups.. it was probably a lawn ornament someone had and they just put it up there.
So I'll be stopping there this week and hopefully be building a sj side by side with you!

That's awesome hopefully you can get it from them. I just don't how willing they'd be to climb up on the roof and get it down and then put another up there unless they have those boat forklifts and can easily can that one down and another up there.

Before I give away this Waveraider hull is there anything else I can use from it? I have all the electronics and start/stop switch ( which I don't think works) and then the motor and that's it. Will anything from the pump, midshaft, or exhaust be useful on a superjet?

And looks like a good enough excuse to swap in 61x cylinders to me :)

Pull the top end off and run a hone and maybe some new piston rings. Those numbers are a little low and uneven. You're probably gonna have to rejet the carbs and new seals wouldn't be a bad idea at this time either. All in all looks like a good runner for your swamp.
