First superjet.. Rebuilt and ready to party

Pistons will be here Monday.
I have so much clean up work on the motor.. razor blades, simple green and patients
My dad was watching old VHS tapes and took a photo of me on what I believe is 1989 Yamaha wave jammer. I have 3 fake teeth because of that Ski.. jumping wakes on that ski was crazy being small.

Pretty slick day….
The super chicken is the most fun I have had on a ski. You just giggle and laugh. Definitely hit some pretty nice wakeboard boat wakes 2 up and I need a chiropractor.. lol
The Rickter is an animal! Even at 8K asl, I really couldn’t imagine that ski at sea level. The RRP steering set up was definitely unique to get used to for some reason for me.. it was so quick but turned different than my SJ. After 2 hours it wouldn’t be a problem for my but was different.
I also rode a JetManiac 718 with a Red pipe in a RN, definitely got me excited for my ski when she is right, and can’t wait to put it back together.

So what I have found out it is the 1996 and 1997 RN super jets have the same hull has the SN. The 1998 superjet got some improvements, front sponsons among a couple other items I believe. After riding the ‘99 super with the jet maniac 718 I definitely noticed a difference from my ski. I think I really want to get front sponsons… pro watercraft? Blowsion? What do you guys like?

Actually, the 2008-2020 round nose had bottom deck improvements. A 98 would be the same bottom deck as the 96 just with different paint colors. The 08 and up had deeper chines, molded front sponsons, shorter handle pole end where the bars mount (less steering throw), 62t nozzles, and a setback pump for better handling and hookup. These hulls are better suited for racing where as the older rn is better for freestyle and surf as it will slide around easier. They definitely will handle differently.

I have blowsion sponsons on my 96. They were on it when I got it. The pro watercraft is more geared for racing than the blowsion. Also the placement of the sponsons will also affect the handling to a degree. Mounting them higher off the bottom will help with high speed turning where as right off the bottom will help with low speed stability more and could possibly cause chine walk if mounted too low. I definitely prefer a super jet with front sponsons than not.

Good to meet you this weekend up at Ruedi! That place is a gem for sure. Look forward to seeing your ski done, I may pick up a 760 cylinder this winter for some more displacement fun at our altitude.

Here is my ski build log in case you want any inspiration!

Dang.. heck of a response my man! Thank you for the information. Just a rec rider at this point and learning every ride.

Any thoughts about installing the sponsons in the same spots as where the stock ones are on a 2008+ SJ? Where did you install yours? Higher or lower on the hull?
Thank you for your time.

Definitely awesome to meet you. When I get the ski done come back and rip her. I will read your build thread and curious on what you settled on for jetting?

I will go this direction when these come back in stock..

Getting back to the project after heading to the Lake of the Ozarks, we rented couches and sent them chasing the huge boats on the lake.
Cleaning the old silicone was definitely a chore, 3 different colors of silicone, but it is what it is.
New crank seals installed correctly this time, we believe the previous owner didn’t install them correctly. I got the crank in tonight and the motor cradle (or what ever you call it)
Crank is trued and welded which is nice.
Hopefully a complete motor tomorrow night.

I was hoping to get a little further tonight but the cleaning of gaskets/silicone is taking longer than I thought.

I wasn’t able to get the motor in the ski but she is all buttoned up. Checked the v-force 2 reeds and we are good to go, gave them a very “light” cleaning as well. After cleaning up the domes more today I discovered they are 36cc domes, definitely want to try 32cc but after a get some serious rides on the ski.
New fuel lines tomorrow as well. Also going to peak at the MSD, just to make sure everything is good to go.
I am getting really stoked to get her back on the water and pray she rips.

This gal is definitely fighting me until the end… The build list stated a MSD enhancer so thats why I opened it up to check the rev limiter. Nope all I found was corrosion, sand and some rocks… All stock As well. I really want to get the ski back on the water (it’s already high 40’s in the morning here) so cleaned it all up and going to run it with the stock rev limiter for now. Probably do a MSD, Zeel seems awesome but they are kinda hit or miss according to my sources, or a stock one with an adjustable rev limiter? It will have to be a winter project as of right now.
Cooling lines were no good so hopefully snagging some in the morning, finish up the electrical and firing her up around lunch time. We have massive rain right now so I may risk a little lightning to try her out.. Don’t worry guys my wife won’t let me. Haha

Going from the stock cdi to the zeel will be a big difference in power all around especially with the dry pipe. Will probably have to richen your carb tune a little when you go to the zeel. The changes from the enhancer to the zeel won't be a huge improvement. The biggest benefit to the zeel is the ease of tunability. Good thing is as well that Zeeltronic has produced a cdi that works with the 701 electronics.

Well heck.. I get excited.
The MSD is a slick item, the Zeel is as well but just wanting to keep things simple so I ordered the OEM with the rev limiter adjustment. I believe You can change the timing up with the other ones but heck I am just trying to get this gal back on the water for some fun. I am thinking setting the rev limiter to 8k rpm? Any suggestions? Maybe higher?
