Freestyle Fixed! my leaky Gen3 b.o.b PT2

So I pretty much read this entire forum but unless I missed something I'm very confused, and kind of pissed. Did they refund you most of your money? I would have sent that thing back so fast Usain Bolt couldn't keep up.

I bought it second hand and knew I was getting a project. I do not feel that they owe me anything. Now would I buy a new hull from them.. Probably not.

Ah makes a little more sense now. Have you had any experience with EME Hulls? I was considering a new fiberglass BOB gen 3 but your thread has me second guessing.

I would say if the gen3 is a good price and is not leaking too bad, they are a really fun hull. I do not have any experience with EME.

Took the bob to the surf and she did awesome there, landed and rode out my first flips so that was cool. Then I let a buddy ride her and he lawn darted into a sand bar hard enough it knocked the battery and gas tank out of the straps. So now the front end is smashed and separated at the bond line.

I saw that bob in the air upside down multiple times while I was riding the waves

So I like the ski clinic guys, they seem nice enough the couple times I met them, I liked the Eye of the storm video series they did.

Having said that; F U Ski Clinic! Why would you even let this heap out of your shop!?

After stripping the ski down you can see the circle shaped crack. The only thing holding her together was the little bit of sglass I put on as reinforcement. Upon closer inspection all the licoricing carbon fiber around the nose never got wet out. I am not sure how much better it would have held up if it was done properly, but wow I cant believe the lack of quality...

@TheBuzzard
rule#1= never let anybody ride your ski!
every minute they ride it is a minute less you are going to get out of it!

I am taking that advice. Going to be a lot more picky about who rides it.

most of the successful hull building companies had prior experience with composites, building swimming pools, fish rearing ponds or fiberglass company of some kind. the rest of the hull builders learned as they went and the buyers were the ginny pigs. some hillbilly hull builders make the thing so thick and heavy it'll never break. others make it too thin with the wrong ratio of cloth to resin and it grenades prematurely. some hull builder just hack junk out as fast as they can for max profit. you really gotta be careful who's hull you buy, new or used!

After glassing the bottom of a couch I haven't been real excited to get itchy again. So instead of fixing her I made this edit from the last trip to Pismo.

Finally got her all glassed back up!
-Sanded off all the dry/cracked carbon and gelcoat
-Filled in the bond rail with resin and micro spheres
-3 layors of 4oz sglass on the outside
-2 layor of 4oz sglass on the inside
-Sanded down smooth to the touch with air grinder and scuff pad.
-Thick Coat of resin and dye (trying this instead of gel coat)

Plan is this winter or at some point to redo the bottom of the hull with resin using the roll and tip method

Took pic right after applying. It looks smoother now that it is dry:
