It's been done before plenty of times. It's not impossible...
I'm gonna try it again. I almost did it on one piece my first time, but I didn't leave myself enough extra turf to go to the bottom of the holds.
You definitely have to use A LOT of heat. When I did my last turf job, I get it hot enough so that is stretches and bends/falls effortlessly and hurts the tips of fingers when you're stretching it cuz it's so hot. Some kind of thin gloves would have been nice..

That was the hardest part, was making sure I had enough to wrap around. All those bends, and curves really add up to a lot of turf!

The best way to do it is to use templates. That's what we did on my SJ and it worked great.

Always cracks me up how so many people use plush padding in their ENTIRE tray except for the ONLY spots your feet go. I understand they do it in order to make little craters to aid in locking in, but I think we can all agree there's better ways to get tight holds without sacrificing padding under your feet. The best and the most comfortable holds have plush above AND below your feet. I'd be happy to see the cut outs fade away, and instead people start getting with the various types of heel locks all the other legitimate companies are coming out with.

Mine was done by mistake :(...wish I had just done it even, but it didn't seem like there would be enough room..

Dang nice turf jobs!
You think you guys could take some measurements of the width of the footholds? Like from the outside of your foot to wear the ledge extends into the tray?

Those are some big holds! I just measured tom21s holds and they measure 5 inches wide from the outside of your foot to the ledge that extends into the tray. Pretty big too, and I'll be extending them more with padding when it comes to turfing.
