breaking something
Starts up in a second of being on the button. Is it possible that this hose I was using was at too much of an angle and the restriction was creating too much back pressure?

I used a 45 degree hose to alleviate that issue. Do you start it up in the shop before heading to the lake?

If you had your flywheel off and now it's backfiring after reinstalling I would go back and check your woodruff key.

I also noticed that you replaced the flywheel with a lightened one. If you have your old flywheel I would try running that and see if the backfiring stops.

It backfired either once or twice out of 30 start ups. So it's not consistent. But even so, you think it could be a timing issue?

Gonna put my exhaust back together and start it up and see if it does it again. If so I'll pull it off. Sucks because I just yamabond ed that sucker shut!

I'd just do it now. No sense in causing additional possible backfires. What are you gonna do if it backfires and splits your chamber open? Never gonna get your flip done in a week like that.

He got rid of the epic @Matt Jones .

A ski will "backfire" when it dumps too much fuel. maybe a slightly leaky needle and seat.

you'd have to really F up to not get that woodruff key in there. @Roseand dont chase suggestions, If you know you got it in there then you're good. It wouldn't start over and over with a missing woodruff and off timing.

That long exhaust hose being slightly pressed off wont cause too much back pressure. mines jammed between my tank and side of the ski and i ride everyday with no problems..

Very good point. Makes sense.
Needle is just a few months old though. It could be just be a one time deal. I'll make sure to keep an eye on it and if it does it again I'll start tearing stuff down.
Heck, I'd like an o ringed flywheel cover for how often I pull mine..

Well don't put yamalube on the cover and it can be removed pretty easy. Lol
Gasket hasn't been enough for sealing it before.. So this time yamabond seemed smart. Truthfully you shouldn't have to pull it much :l

I don't know how you prime your fuel lines when they are totally dry(when you remove the lines, or if the ski sits) but I hold start and stop and crank it. Sometimes doing so will put a lil too much fuel in the chamber and boom..... A small backfire can happen. Fuel vapor going out the exhaust port filling the pipe up etc.

The rubber needle cone wears out if you ride a lot. I change mine out when they wear.

The o ring covers are cool but the o ring gets flat or can pinch in the groove it sits in so just replace it like you would a gasket. Make sure to get a few feet of extra o ring and you're good.

A tiny schmear of 1211 goes a long way. You shouldn't have excess squeezing out. I use a tiny bit by the stator grommet and where the o ring butts up to the other end .

So, today was the official maiden voyage :). I rode her for over an hour and a half today!! It was entertaining, the first thing I did when I got on it was pretty much go WOT.. Needless to say it's very twitchy and I rag dolled Hardcore.
The first 30 minutes were pretty entertaining coming from a superjet. It's extremely responsive and responds very particularly to weight placement so it took some time to get used to. But after a bit, I was having a freeken blast on it. It's sooooo light and is real easy to flick around. Plus it doesn't ride real nose high. I can cruise comfortably. No back ache. But I'm sure tired from all the times I had to get back in the tray lol
At the end I was getting comfortable enough to try 180s and such. It was a lot of fun. However, I need to fix my trim cable setup, and redo the foothold padding. There's not enough padding in the top of the holds. This hull lands really soft too, I SD surprised. I'll have a better ride report once I get used to it. It'll take me some time but I'm already happy. It's definitely a huge change!!

Here's a link to just a little video, hopefully it works https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1638300046429431&id=100007483539941
