You're probably not going to break the pole, and if you do, just get another stock one. If you get to the point that you are riding crazy enough to break the pole (excluding over extending it on nose stabs), you should likely be shopping a different ski, not just a pole.
I agree, there was this guy on here/PWCT that made these aluminum poles for like $280, then $295, now about $300+, but ive seen a few ppl use it in their build and I think I recall them having to drill holes and then reupholster the chin pad cover that he includes for extra $. Not too bad I guess but I've never replaced a pole/cables/throttle assembly on one of these. Shouldn't be too bad though. I've swapped out engines, rebuilt carbs, drivelines, pumps, wear rings etc... but have never opened cases and rebuilt motors. (I've taken apart a blown up one that was salted, my arms looked like popeye by the time I was done) I think it shouldn't be too difficult, its just that mines not broken (yet).
I stay pretty close to shore anyway, BUT, I don't ride in flat glass lakes... its always in the gulf/pass/bay here on the west coast of FL. not too many lakes here until you get a few hours inland. Everyone whose poles break that I've seen, are usually A. doing tricks, or B. riding in gulf/surf waters. You guys have years of experience with this stuff, if not decades, so I think ill be ok for now with the stock pole.
