Freestyle hulls in the surf...who does it? Which hull?

On the badass? It was a standard adjustable xmetal I think. Set in the middle. Wdk steering with azonic ultracross bars.

Lol @ "Official surf"!

I really like having some rocker on a hull. I'm dangerous on a superjet because I'm too stupid to avoid going too far over a wave and catching the nose and getting rolled. My superfreak saved me many times. My rn hurt me a few times.

Agreed, I am able stuff my predator into waves and ride out that I would not be able to do on a RN, rocker is awesome.

Different riders prefer different skis. I like the predator with a long pole, most guys run a shorter pole on a predator than I do. Put me on a footrocket and I'm a mess, but I see plenty of riders doing well on a rocket.

I had 1 ride on an sv1 that was not setup the way I would and I would say it was the closest 2nd to my predator I have been on. Every rider is different and everyone likes a different setup.

I've ridden my foot rocket in the ocean surf and it was perfect (for me). I primarily ride on Lake Erie though... so even though we get waves that can be chest to double overhead high, it's not true SURF.

I will say however, if I lived on the ocean, I would likely have a Predator hull.

Everyone has their own taste, style etc... my advise, ride as many hulls as you can before you make a decision.

The best "freestyle" hull made for the surf hands down.

It's in the name... FS-2

@McDog the hull is for sale for a real good price

The problem is your pole is too short. Look I'm not going to claim I'm some wave god or something but I've learned my body position is way more important than my ski's handling or driveline specs and I've overcome lawn darting followed by cartwheels from the break by trail and error. On a stock to -3 superjet pole you can hang your ass behind the ride plate or kiss the mounting bracket depending on if you're going down or up a "water distortion point" which by definition is a 'lake wave' or an 'official surf swell' depending on what's actually happening on the water.

Modern A/M ski's decrease that pivot point in to "backflip or accelerate" and to me that is not fun or economically exceptable even if I could afford to replace a drenched total loss when I ef up lol.

Here's what a flatwater freestyle ski is good for in the surf.

With a longer pole and ride plate it wouldn't be bad at all IMO.

Yes.

It's hard not to notice it when every edit posted with good production consists of a shot of a guy going slow toward a face and then instantly going twice as fast up it as the wave break in to a roll or flip and cutting away cause they had to bob around for 4 seconds to plain out again. As soon as the ski pops up it cuts away in to another guy idling towards a wave and accelerates to mach 3 within 10 yards to do another upside down aerial. The 2 shots per minute of wave riding consists of a big slash followed by a cut away because since the hull is designed for upside down you cant double back for a combo attack on the same face of actual wave riding without showing the long recovery time. And when there is a wave ride combo shot its at a pace twice as slow as a superjet even though the motor is probably twice as powerful.

I mean no disrespect talking about this but this sport is not popular because the average person you meet out on the water still thinks a sub is cooler than riding around slow waiting to flip.

Back to the original question, i rode a freestyle hull in the surf for a couple years and it was fun to learn aerials and play in 3 footers, but in the end i switched to a Predator. Surf riding became way more fun and the only aerial that bacame harder was the backflip obviously. Just learn to go fast and huck it. Once you learn to ride fast, all the flatwater hulls will feel awkward with speed. Thats just my opinion though

air blair

you are the reason
I've been in surf as big as 8 foot but bigger than that. Even I would need a bigger hull. What am I saying.? Shoot I always run short ride plate. So ya long ride plate. That would do it. Big waves take a total different setup.

Personal preference , I have a carbon full size Badass with a long handlepole , Tem tried to talk me into going shorter but I dont regret it being so long with 4 various sized rideplates the ski is very versatile . I have ridden it in very VERY large surf and the light weight has not been an issue at all it carves well and high speed stability is great, although it bounces a bit in chop i dont care ,flat landings can be painful but i got older bones so i stay on the water Its perfect for me i couldnt be happier with the way it handles in the surf it turns on a dime and I can pin it and escape a crashing wave when necessary . Superfreaks work well on the west coast too

sf ride on the wave face better than any other Ive tried. but some other hulls do better with big tricks.sf carbon hull does bounce a bit in chop but I usually dont ride those days anyway, lol Any ski that lands totally flat is gonna hurt. that vid of nick saying that 1100 makes 240 hp is kinda funny...

I am going to try the new xfs in small surf. I mean if your out there while flat and some small waves come in, hit it right?

Seen folk using FS/XFS in bigger surf regularly and even comps. The hulls seem to hold up for a few years. Just the tray a little small I guess ref XFS.
