been using this helmet for several years and never had those issues you are referring to...
I've smashed my face enough times with a helmet on to be afraid of those openings. One of the local guys bought that kayak helmet and didn't like the padding and straps compared to the CPX. When I was shopping both of those helmets it wasn't obvious there were any differences other than the cage and visor since they share the same shell.

What ev's I'm just picky about the cage since I've had a few accidents.

That looks great, but holy moly, look at that price! Quick search shows me they're running around $190.00 at most places. While I like to think my brain is that important to me, I know I can get a really nice, downhill mountain bike helmet for only about $100.00 that works pretty well. The hubby found one on clearance for $49.99. It didn't actually fit him even though it was an XXL, but it fits me (usually a M). I think it must be a child's size XXL (not what it was advertised). I needed a helmet anyway, so he's still searching for his new helmet, but I'm set.

I think I'm stuck between the arai and the shoei. I just gotta find a dealer and try them on and decide then. I bought the giro and it was like having a Charlie brown head. Hopefully the arai and shoei aren't as big.

you can find them MUCH cheaper on ebay than $190.
