thanks man i have 701cc stock bore with coffman pipe milled head 190 compresion running av fuel the carbs are 48mm picked them up with riva 48mm intake with proks for 400 bucks i thought dood deal and the seller said great for setup but little big just as i thought
48 are a bit overkill on your motor.they'll work ok but may not have the snap your 38 had.

I agree.....I would not use anything over dual SBN 46's on a 701 motor. Anything under 800 cc I would not mess with the bigger carbs, especially straight bore race carbs. If your carbs are bigger than the motor requires it will be PIA to tune.....IF you ever get it tuned.
I guess all those sport spec boats should take off their duel 48's.

38's have allot of snap but just don't make the mid to top power. I found on my SS lamey the 48's make great mid to top and are nice down low.....but the 46's are cleaner and snappier. The Riva's and full specs made more power but were more difficult to tune. The dual 46's are so nice in comparison.
If I had to choose between full spec race bore carbs and the blackjacks, I would choose the blackjacks. I think they will be cleaner and have more snap down low because of that venturi in the throat of the carb.
Neither are we. NO 38mm carbed 701 will hit, bottom to top, like a properly tuned NOVI. But, there in layes the problem...... properly tuned.
This site can be great for its informational value, but it can also be the mecca of misinformation, too. But, its cool, keeps the price of good carbs down.

Final clarity here-they are all good when properly tuned!!!
