Jace Forest...BRAP!
Set up wakes,
Use trim, go fast enough so that the ski doesn't just want to ride nose high and smack you in the face, almost on plane. Go in a straight line about 15-20' start hooking left so you make a U then straight again. The U part of the wake for flips would be about 10-12' wide. With that setup you don't have to travel that far out before turning around to hit your wake. Always look over your left shoulder and watch what your wake is doing. It's all about timing and will just take practice. Just always watch what the wake is doing so you can figure out when to turn around and hit the wake. There should just be one good wake.

The wider you make your U the further out you have to go before turning around to hit it, and the smaller the wake will be.
If you make the U more narrow, the sooner you have to turn around to hit it but it will be bigger. You can go to narrow and the good wake(first one) will die out and there will be a second one, just takes practice.

Watch my vid in the pics and vids, it has a good pov of a setup wake.
Also when going for a flip, going too fast into the flip will take away height but make you travel further. Going slower at the wake will give you more height. If you go slower, get in the gas sooner when hitting the wake.

Hope that helps

For clarity, which wave do you hit? 1st or 2nd? I have been working on it and hitting the 2nd and having a lot of trouble hitting it right.

Great write up btw! Could you do one for a setup wake for rolls too?

You might want to take someone with expertise in flipping. I see no one has mentioned you should let the pump settle before you rip the gas on the 180 flip attempts.

I hit... or at least try to hit the second wave. I have a wicked hard time timing it right. Yes from what I know you can do a roll off a setup wake.

Billybo... no one has mentioned that here. Chadgnarly did when he was here. I have a hard time remembering all the steps... I have a few people in mind to hit up for some help. Tx.

Maybe you could post a video of you doing one on this thread for her. Videos are much easier to understand for most people.

I always thought people learned from being hands on with decent instruction. Thanks again Tpain for reminding why i don't help people. :)

What I meant was that most people including myself learn better from hands on or a visual....I have hard times visualizing things and I learned setup wakes and flips from watching YouTube videos for years and then watching local competitions. I hope you didn't take that as an insult at all? I thought maybe you had a video that could be posted up. I don't even know you so I wouldn't try to offend you at all.

Im deff no expert, but i make a U setup, as Jace say. The setup wake and timing for hitting the wake is soo important. You can deff feel when the wake is steep correct and you hit it at the right time. it Just feels right.
I tried 10 attempts with wide U's and later turn to wake, then 10 attempts with narrower wake and faster turn.
Then 10 with hitting first wake, then 10 with second wake. don't be afraid to try something different. Oh yeah and some body work does help to, squat, pull levers and look back/arch. Its hard to remember the steps the first many times :)
Acutually the first flip i rode away and got on tape, is this - i tried making my setup wake more narrow and turn around faster (didn't think i would come around) but it surprised me :)
