Hand guns

Get out and shoot as many different guns as you can before making a decision. Asking open ended questions like this about guns, is like asking what type of two stroke oil does everyone like.

And personally the glock 19 (or sig 228) as a starter until you feel comfortably and then a quality 1911 in 45 when you feel (are) competent. But, again, just an opinion. Good luck.

I used to have a Glock 17. I was into IPSC-style shooting and had it modded for that. No hassles, accurate enought for target practice at 25 yards! Recommended!

I have a glock 27 springfield xds and fn 57. The 57 is by far the funnest to shoot 20 rd mags low recoil and very accurate

I stand by .357 revolvers. If you need more than 6 of those puppies then you already done got YOURSELF in to some chit you should not be in!

We agree on something at last. LOL

I have a Ruger GP100 stainless 4.25" barrell .357 mag, recently acquired my new Ruger SuperRedhawk stainless 9.5" barrell 44mag with a Leupold scope on it (deer hunting),
and I have a S&W 500 mag hunter on order. (not sure WTF I will do with the 500, but it sure is a pretty gun. LOL)

I like the idea of revolvers because there is no room for error.

I just purchased my first handguns last weekend. Went with the Ruger SR9c for myself and the SR22 for my wife. I researched for the last 8 months and kept coming back around to the Ruger. We have 2 ranges withing 20 mins of the house and got to shoot about 15 different guns each.

I looked at the Judge and lost interest at the sight and feel of the gun. Way too heavy and the 12lb trigger pull makes it less desireable for my wife to shoot.

Never been a fan of the Glocks, can't really explain why. I do however love the 1911 frames and will likely purchase a .45 1911 in the next year. Leaning towards a Colt or a Ruger...

The SR22 I purchased for my wife is a fun little gun and I am already looking for another used one for myself. Great little CCW or stash gun and super fun to blast 100's of rounds through at a very economical cost. I can purchase 550 rounds of .22LR for what 100 rnds of 9mm costs me.

I am going to buy a SR22 after shooting my friends. You hit it right, its an amazing stash gun and fun to just blast all day for $10. The SR shot all the junk bulk 500 pack .22lr just fine. We have to get purchase permits for each handgun here, can only get 4 at a time, and you can only buy one handgun a month....In good times it takes 3 months to get the police to issue your handgun permits. I bet with the hurricane it will be summer before I can get it.

I had the 22LR narrowed down to 3 different options with the SR22 as my first pick. I laid all 3 out at the range and the SR22 was the hands down winner. I should really give props to ATP Gunworld for stepping up and putting all the guns I was interested in, on the range with plenty of ammo to run thru them. You simply cannot beat a back to back comparison. It cost $5/gun plus ammo and if you purchase one of the guns, they take that cost off the purchase.

Listen to Endo... He has the same advice someone gave me when I was looking to get into handguns.
If I had bought a glock 19 like everyone told me I HAD to have... It would have been a waste because Im just not very accurate with the Glocks Ive shot, and in turn I would not be comfortable carrying it. Find a gun YOU are comfortable shooting.

That was my experience as well. My grouping opens up almost double when I shoot a Glock.

I have a few friends with handguns most of them police officers so i might just buy some targets and have them all over and tell them to bring what they have lol so i can get a good idea of what fits.

No problem, it's all pretty fresh in my head right now and I have 8 months worth of links from all my research.

The only problem with buying guns online is that while they are cheaper, the transfer fees and shipping usually brings it up to almost the same cost and, if you ever require warranty work, you have to ship it off rather than just taking it back to a local dealer. The main reason I suggest them is so you can do some research on pricing. Bass Pro Shop is another good online reference. Between the two you should be able to have a good idea what a gun is worth. I bought local and negotiated each of our new guns at $100 off retail which actually worked out cheaper than www.cheaperthandirt.com
