Straight up, if I had to pay PER POST that I made in the For Sale Section, I probably wouldnt sell here anymore.
However, I WOULD be 110% willing to pay like even up to a 40 or 50$ yearly fee.
I dont want to sit around counting threads that I open to see how much I am going to owe and what not...

I think 10$ a month should stay the way it is, and then if you want access to being a SELLER in the For Sale section- Then you have a few options...
Pay per post at 1$ per post.
Or unlimited for the year for like "xx" amount.
Or 25 for sale threads for 20$...

Because to do 1$ a thread, no other options would kind of suck.
I mean how often do you see something posted, then it is taken down for a varity of reasons, or having to bump your thread shouldnt cost you a 1$...
That adds up VERY fast for people who sell alot on here.

Id be willing to pay like a 40$ fee to post in the for sale section....

Fee would only be when you make a post selling something, not if you answer a questions.

No offense to our vendors, but I think they sould maybe pony up just a bit more. Some sites have a vendor price that gets them unlimited sales and a different color name. This is handy to identify these guys as "approved" and gives a warm fuzzy feeling to new buyers knowing they are dealing with someone trusted. Probably something like $50-60/yr.

Some sites I visit also give these vendors their own "Vendor Showcase" forum to peddle their parts. I wouldn't go that far here, but it's an option.

pbnation.com is a vBulletin site which has a pretty active forum (1/2 million members). They have a system in place which lets someone bump a post by clicking a bump button which only appears every xxx time limit. This is nice because you don't have to add to the threads post count. By clicking bump, the tool just moves your thread to the top and the counter is reset keeping the thread clutter free.

They also have options in place sort of like ebay where you can bold/highlight/sticky for a xxx time limit for an additional cost. (if this site wanted to make $)

But as far as the original topic goes, shouldn't the question be "is the for sale section wild/wooly" instead of
Most people will agree the classifieds here are wild/wooly.
Because I don't see how this could be the case. What is the problem with single item threads? Once that item is sold it doesn't get bumped. Right now the "bumped/new threads" make up less than 3 pages deep. Is that "Wild and Wooly"? I find it much quicker to read titles across 3 pages than it is to open every thread on one page to view whats being sold. So is the site out to make money or to make it user friendly?

I find it quite annoying to see 10+ single item threads by the same seller bumped within 10 seconds of each other.

I agree, If a seller is selling 10 things at once list them in one thread. "Superjet parts, Pump, mounts, cable" etc...

I understand a bunch of threads from one seller at different times or unrelated items.

But this is kinda more along the lines of Marketplace etiquette and off topic from the OP about money and the marketplace.

^^ Definitely the best way to do it is an automated solution within the forum.

I'd have to agree that a premium membership should be a requirement of using the sale section, but even so, it's still a lot to manage if you plan on doing it manually. I don't think it's unreasonable to charge a reasonable yearly fee to post in there. I mean, they're using the medium you pay for to sell their stuff...

I'm sure there's a mod for vB that you could limit total threads in the for sale section per user, so you can only have a total of say 10 threads running. That way you can group common items together in one thread, like a powertrain thread where you can list your flywheel cover to your steering nozzle, etc.

And make it a requirement that you keep your first post a strict listing of items available for sale, second post a picture post of items, and make sure that entries in the first post are removed as they're sold.

I really don't understand users thinking it's a good idea to require any kind of fee (subscription, per post, approved retailer list, pyramid schemes, etc).

I personally like to see as many items for sale as possible. Limiting the for sale threads limits my parts selection. If the site owners need some more money to run the site fine, I'm down. But these suggestions are really stupid.

Is it really broke? It seems to work fine for me but I pay to play and see no problem with requiring others doing the same. I would hate to miss out on some listings because of fees, though. I am on the fence.

I don't have a problem paying the $1 to post items. But I do think that vendors who have a "business" or "side business" pay a little extra to be a site supporter (Sorry jetmaniac, thrust, ski clinic, ect..). Other forums Im on do have the vendors pay to advertise.
Also I like the $10 annual fee to sell.........This reminds me, I haven't payed up yet for this year yet. What ever is decide I'm sure it will be worked out great. And it there is any extra money left over.......maybe the X can put on a BBQ cookout freeride!!

I personally see the $1 per post as a hassle and would not sell on here. However I would be down for a yearly fee associated with selling. How would you even implement a $1 per post/thread fee? Would you pay before you posted, or would you have a "tab" kept? I surely wouldn't want to be making a bunch of individual payments.

The fee would need to be separate from the regular subscription...not everyone sells and it could turn people away from subscribing period.

Truthfully I think that the 1$ per for sale thread, is going to limit the amount of stuff you see listed for sale....
All those random little things that everyone needs but no one has, well you wont see them listed anymore...

a YEARLY thing would be much more efficient.
Even up to 50$ a year would be a lot better to me then having to pay 1$ per thing..

Id rather pay once and not have to worry about it again..

Make it a YEARLY thing to post in the for sale section....
Have it be a bit more for buisinesses,
And then have it be XXX amount for normal users, Not exceeding like 50$(Even that i feel like is a little high?? =/)

How about keep the $10 yearly subscription and add a $5/year option for selling privileges which would be separate?
