Surfriding How to keep Surfers off your local break???

Every since the winter rains have brought us the “Sandbar,” our normally ignored riding spot has changed from a typical beach break to an incredibly epic shaped wave, making it the destination of choice for every surfer and tow crew within driving range. We’ve been racking our brains with ideas on how to get our spot back. Feel free to add your own suggestions!

Here’s our top 3 ideas-

1. Chum the break with fish guts- The wave may not look so good when you’re on the menu!
2. Double mix our oil- When your Lungs are burning from smog inhalation it always seems to kill the “vibe”
3. Anonymously start a war pitting the surfers against the tow surfers by posing as a surfer and complaining to the authorities that the tow crews are attacking them. (This idea could backfire as the authorities will most likely group the stand up riders with the tow surfers on couches and ban us all!)

lol, funny the people illegally operating vessels in the surf, who live hours from the beach who have zero wave knowledge/experience in the ocean aside from what they learned riding jetskis are calling them assholes..no wonder everybody hates jetskiiers...

is it the jetskiiers or the opportunistic "defenseless" bullies who have the law on there side whether it's right or wrong.

If my spot suddenly was flushed with people who made it illegal for me to ride there, I'd be pissed too.

its not the people that are making it illegal..its the law..you arnt allowed to ride in the surf either way...granted the law is rarely enforced but it kinda negates any argument about having rights to a spot..maybe if ski riders showed some respect they might get some in return..or u could do to them what would happen if a ski rider showed up at some of the surf spots around here..slash the tires on their truck, wax the windshield and then beat the guy senseless with a tire iorn??..just an idea hahaha

it's not illegal to ride in the surf everywhere. I don't know about where the OP is asking about though.

california..the law is like 300ft from a breaking wave or something like that...all i was trying to say was maybe if jetskiiers showed some respect to surfers they might get some in return...keep in mind in the past all the really good surfriders (herbie fletcher, randy laine, scott watkins etc etc) were surfers as well (and it was very evident in their riding)...seems like that isnt the case these days..

like i said before i have never once been told i couldnt ride somewhere or gotten in trouble for it...my point was that if u are pissing people off by riding to close to them or whatever that maybe they will start enforcing those rules..and trust me i am also glad u and everybody else that isnt living here already isnt haha

here we go again... I live 30 mins from the beach.surfed for the first time when I still had snot running out my nose. Got waaaay mor hours on a board than on a jetski so I just might know a little something about waves.if rode a ski in the surf maybe 6 or 7times. But since you know everything you already knew that right?

This thread is so deja vue. Somebody complains about surfers......Wydopen says jet skiers are the assholes.....argument ensues.

I say surfers and jet skiers can both be assholes and from what I hear neither respects the other no matter what. Competition for limited resources does that to people.

Figured maybe u guys would actually want to get someones perspective who actually does both. The best thing about jetskiing is u don't need a perfect wave to have fun..waves that are too closed out or break too fast for surfing are perfect for jetskiing. As long as it's clean and hollow u can do anything u could on a long perfect peeler on a ski. So when guys are wanting to surf a sandbar at 5mile long beach break just move over to the next peak even if it is more closed out. Unless u are doing 20turns on a wave on a standup ski which not many people can even do then what's it matter? Just move down and give it a little more gas in between turns to make the section and make everyone happy my favorite places to ride are places like pismo where it's crappy reform closeouts that are barley surfable but are perfect on skis. Who wants to ride down the line for 10seconds ruining the whole wave with their wake anyways??

Where we live, it's more of a locals versus tourists thing. The locals here are more worries about blow ins than guys on ski's. In saying that, we have a lot of guys that will happily paddle up right where you are skiing. If they don't care, we don't either. Sure there's a chance you may get a ski on your head, but you knew that before you paddled out, right?

The problem with one group over another is that the more you push it, the more it escalates, and the more you look like as ass. The authorities are always going to side with the equipment that doesn't create any polution, so I guess it's a respect thing for most people.

We used to fire up, and then though, hey, if we just let them think that they are telling us what to do and we nod politely with no back chat, we can go about our way and the surfers can think they just just won. Sometimes it's just easier than having to fight for waves at your local break. The more you fight it, the harder it's going to be to keep skiing where you do.

it's give and take... You guys can ride anywhwere but have no waves.... We are limited on riding spots but get overhead surf almost everyday...
