Surfriding How to keep Surfers off your local break???

When its is good, its just part of the surfriding experience. We had a surfer come up and wanted to fight us before we even unloaded the skis. We didnt talk :):):):) or anything and we're respectful. He was not hearing it...And this was in actually in the only 100% legal jetski surf zone in NJ. You have to remember this is supposed to be fun and no ride is worth getting pissed off or in jail over. We drove 40mins down to the next spot and rode on a nice empty beach...pick and choose the battle.

to be completely honest, i was just joking. i'm the type of person that will give respect to anyone till they give me a reason not to, only expecting the same in return. i just don't understand why it always comes down to a "war over the waves" so to say. too much sun playing tricks on us i guess??? lol

Well I hope the area doesn't get crowded up with surfers and get all brawly and legal. All the guys (riders) I met down there were some of the nicest guys I have had the privilege to be around. Even the CHP guy was super cool to hang with. He's also a regular rider in the same area. Everybody we rode with were all surfers / riders. It's a great place to ride and I really hope it stays that way.

Best of luck guys... I have faith.

california..the law is like 300ft from a breaking wave or something like that...all i was trying to say was maybe if jetskiiers showed some respect to surfers they might get some in return...keep in mind in the past all the really good surfriders (herbie fletcher, randy laine, scott watkins etc etc) were surfers as well (and it was very evident in their riding)...seems like that isnt the case these days..

Randy rode right by a surfer last weekend as the surfer slapped the water in a silly tantrum .lol

its not the people that are making it illegal..its the law..you arnt allowed to ride in the surf either way...granted the law is rarely enforced but it kinda negates any argument about having rights to a spot..maybe if ski riders showed some respect they might get some in return..or u could do to them what would happen if a ski rider showed up at some of the surf spots around here..slash the tires on their truck, wax the windshield and then beat the guy senseless with a tire iorn??..just an idea hahaha

The REALLY funny thing is that a couple weeks ago the lifeguard came out on his waverunner to the sandbar, passed by the guys on standups and tow in guys, and KICKED OUT THE surfers!! Technically there is not supposed to be any water activities(including surfing) at the sandbar, but tow surfers and standups haven't been harassed lately. It was just not safe for the 2 or 3 idiot surfers to swim out and park in the middle of a jetski festival. They were told to move down the beach!

run them over.

actually i made a deal with a group of surfers last week that we would "share" the waves but sure enough, first wave i took the arrogant aussie surfer of the bunch drops in right in front of me and of course i pull out of an epic 8 foot A framed bowling wave. While running him over was definately due and deserved- I like my break too much and avoid the surfers as much as possible.

Okay... Nearly everyone that rides oceanside surfs...Me, Ross, Randy, even Rosner surfs every now and then... I have been surfing for 13 years... and only jetskiing for 2... I think the surfers are idiots... why in the world would you go through the trouble to surf a wave crowded with tow in guys, paddle surfers and jetskiers when you can drive 10 minutes and surf lowers which only has paddle surfers for the crowd... and is a much, much better wave than the sandbar. I think we should just show up in numbers and try not to start anything negative with the surfers... Bringing bad attention to the wave and us is not a good idea because it could cause our riding place to be actually shut down.

As for surfers and jetskiers sharing waves... there are hundreds of surf spots in southern california... and of those, we can only ride 2 of those spots... Surfers have plenty of waves as it is!

And I am saying this from both side's perspective... I surf at least 10 times a week and jetski as much as I can

The reason those guys don't go surf lowers or some other spot with 200 other guys out is the same reason i dont go surf rincon when it's good. Instead we take a boat into inaccessible spots that arnt swarming with people from la...not everybody likes surfing with every wanna be pro, weekend warrior, beginner, boogie boarder or kyacker withen then area. Sometimes people try to put in some extra effort to get away from the crowds. If u show up to a spot and there are 5 guys surfing that's one thing u can deal with it. Show up and there are five guys riding standups and u can't even surf because they are throwing wakes all over and chopping it up..

Our local spot is kinda nice its inside the inlet where surfers somewhat stay away from

Also our local government is run by surfers or surfing families so we get the short end if the stick. We try and move down the beach and it seems to work for us. Our biggest problem is in the fall with surf fisherman. They like to cast 8oz weights at us

move up here where we have miles of beach, its never an issue since all the surfers hang out at the jetty.

coming from a surfing background. when surfers are out when we are and i see them get a nice wave Im stoked for them. however when they start complaining and crying about how the sandbar breaks every 10 years and they want to surf it, i say to bad. we have been riding the same place since the late 80's. My dad rode this place, im riding it now and eventually my kids will ride it some day. and every 10 years these guys come out saying that this is their spot and we have the whole beach to ride when in reality they have the whole west coast to surf, and jetskiers basically have nothing. for me it is whoever has been at a spot longer and from what i know jetskies have ridden their every weekend.

I used to be on the surfing side when it comes to oceanside... thats how I was exposed to jetskiing... Towing with my dad and I noticed how I could do everything people do on a board and more on a jetski with no paddling, hassling, etc. And when we saw the stand up guys out there my dad and I were keen to watch Ross and others throw huge flips and put on a show! We just moved down the beach to tow in. Then after an hour and a half when they ran outa gas we went back over to the rivermouth to tow. The surfers should just show up at 9 am instead of 7am.. problem solved haha

I vote for the shark bait idea.. Heeeeere sharky sharky sharky. Just don't let go/bleed/ look like seal/ smell like a seal/ or swim like a seal and I think we will all be good. Except for the surfers.

Yesterday there was 2 tow in surfer ski's and the waves were like 2-3'. It was funny to say the least. Plus the tow ski was being very obnoxious. wtf is someone doing tow surfing on 3' waves. weird.

I've been surfing for about 25 years and can say without a doubt the surfer mindset is very juvenile. Here in Cocoa Beach most of the people surf and worship Kelly Slater since he's from Cocoa Beach. The police said we could launch our skis off the beach here but I don't think I will bother since we would get hassled by burnout surfers.

A friend said it best when she told a burnout surfer dude that if he could afford a $10,000 ski he would be riding one himself but since he's a burnout surfer and can barely afford a car he's gonna be jealous and pissed.
