Now i guess it sorta makes sense why they don't change it.. I guess we should all be pretty dang happy that we can continue to get oem parts though.
So even one hull mod like footholds means it has to be inspected by the epa again? That's super lame.

yamaha phaser is a blast for a light small displacement 4 stroke. they have the technology. add a little more power with a small turbo or supercharger and the 4 stroke stupid jet woud be epic. that or a yzf450 turned into a twin 900. efi. mmmmmmm fo much awesomeness

lol copy and paste from momar,in the comments sec at the bottom of this story...pretty much sums it up.

The entire blame for no new 4 stroke standups from any oem except belassi is the out of touch united states race promoters who have no clue where the new money is! The new money is in edm events such as electric daisy which brings 700 million to vegas for a 3 day event! This new money is kids in college and just getting out of college! There is a couple of hundred thousand very attractive girls barely dressed in neon at edc! This is what attracts new money! The only women at a american jet ski race is collateral damage of family and relationships! So no chicks, no new money, no new standup!!! On the other hand the uim which has there own race series and world championship is combining there racing with large scale edm events with a show stopper in ibiza the party island, the edm island, the island crawling with hundreds of thousands of hot chicks either dressed in neon or barley dressed at all dancing all over the island! The uim gets it, they understand where and how new money works! Thousands of hot chicks, which draws out brand new money which could cause growth and if the united states race promoters team up with the giant edm promoters we could have new four stroke standups from loads of oems! You asked what killed the standup, The american race promoters killed the standup with there anti growth campaign, there anti cool campaign, there borefest events and antiquated tracks and no hot chicks other then collateral damage girls,

Maybe if they keep seeing more growth/money as well as the Spark and people wanting smaller pwc options something will happen..

why does everyone want a d@mn four stroke? I'm still waiting for an eTec 800 snowmobile motor to be dropped into a race ski.

2 strokes can easily meet emissions and rival a supercharged 4, it just needs the DI tech, which is NOW available.

Cool article - I still don't understand why 4 stroke stand up is not going to exist, just because it wont carry the nostalgia? Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the 2-stork SJ, but they should build one of each.

Ya ya, we will get the same sales #'s excuse

It would be cool to see the prototypes they had.

If I am not mistaken, in the area in which they are banned, the law states "no two stroke PWCs". It does not state, "no two stroke PWCs unless they are direct injected and meet certain emissions criteria" therefore even IF they built a DI standup that was low emissions it wouldn't be allowed in those area unless they pushed to have the legislation changed, which is likely considerably more difficult than developing low emissions DI technology or adapting it to existing products. It's one thing for a manufacturer to develop new tech, its a whole other to spend their time and money to change the laws, you find they are much more willing to develop products to fit inside the laws that are in place.

I may have misinterpreted it wrong but there was a thread a few days ago about a lake with 2 stroke bans where it was mentioned that 2 strokes meeting 2006 emissions were still allowed. I haven't done the research to confirm whether there may actually be some stipulations written in fine print rather than the assumed total ban of all 2 strokes?.?.?.?

http://www.x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/2-stroke-ban-finally-got-a-warning.152756/

Ok soo it finally happened, im sure everyone is familiar with 2 stroke bans that are happening on federal fresh water rec. parks well here at lake mead they passed and made this ban effective jan 1 2013 and its taken all the way until yesterday to get even a warning from the rangers. So at any rate the way the law is written is that the boats eng must meet 2006 epa emissions standards. Is any 1 else having this issue anywhere else and has anybody come up with anything at all?? I realize that any 4 stroke or DI eng will not be the same as my 2 stroke but I would rather Ride than just give up what I love to do.. Any help is greatly appreciated

Not so fine print.

Code of Federal Regulations for Personal Watercraft at Lake Mead National Recreation Area
36 CFR §7.48 (f)(3) - After December 31, 2012, no one may operate a personal watercraft (PWC) that does not meet the 2006 emission standards set by EPA for the manufacturing of two-stroke engines. A person operating a personal watercraft that meets the EPA 2006 emission standards through the use of direct-injection two-stroke or four-stroke engines, or the equivalent thereof, is not subject to this prohibition and will be allowed to operate as described in this section.
