you have time why can't you just scope out some young up and comers who have crappy skis or kids who ride but don't have a ride of their own. with all the brains here you can't find a way to make some poor kid happy? I guess I am just too thick to give up when I should- I would press on and find a way to make the original plan happen.
People can donate to those causes if they choose to without the ski and while it is a very nice gesture- I was really hoping you pulled this off, cause I wanted to volunteer to do it next year, its a cool idea and I would like to see it live on.( if it works this year)
at some point the ski will get sold or modded and you will have to deal with it sooner or later. maybe get a contract signed or something, have people suggest someone they know who is deserving and in need?
Its your deal, I just think of what it would be like to be a young guy and win a ski!! either way your gesture is very cool. I hope it all goes smoothly,
I can chip in on the driveshaft if anyone is selling. maybe I can secure a new one quickly.
Giving the ski to a kid was a nice idea but not a very well-laid plan. If you think through the logistics it's a nightmare.
A kid who is between 14 and 16 who is at Daytona and already has their boater's license but does not have a ski, but does have an empty trailor bunk to take the ski home (I know I wouldn't want to have to deal with shipping it)... that kind of narrows the field.
This doesn't even touch on the legalities of giving a ski to a kid with any sort of contract in mind.
If it's raffled, the benefit and the feeling of good-will cannot be stolen by a kid selling the ski for profit. The money is collected and distributed and those that needed and received it can do with it what they like, whether the new owner sells the ski or not.

1. You give this thing to a junior rider and ONE person benefits. That one person is not even necessarily a person "in need"."Some
poor kid" can't afford to maintain a jetski, unless by "poor kid" you mean "a kid deprived of their own jetski"... in which case, meh, I'm not impressed.
2. You dangle a free ski in front of a bunch of "poor kids" without a ski and only one gets it. Sounds more like a way to make a bunch of kids unhappy.
3. "Young up-and-comers" already have AT LEAST a 701 square or better. The last junior rider I saw at an amateur freestyle competition was riding a wammer ski.
These are just my thoughts. Don't let this stop you from attempting your own giveaway in the future. Perhaps I'm too short-sighted.
I personally cannot think of better recipients than two of our own and the board that allows this sort of thing to happen.
