If there was a oem hull 800 freestyle class who would compete

I think this is a great idea Jace! I was just having this conversation yesterday about the fact that this sport won't grow much because it costs too damn much to have a competition worthy ski. I raced motocross for 18 years and pro for the last 6 of those and could get a bike off the showroom floor and win a local A class race on it. That's the problem with this sport is that it costs too much for kids (or adults) to get started.

I didnt read the entire thread but I would love for there to be a Stock hull class. Maybe two Pro and Am Stock hull with the cc, and mod limitations. Would be great to see some of the Pros throwback some flatwater hood tricks and stuff, as well as allow the beginners to compete without big money!

I agree with this, coming from racing MX most of my childhood (although I never made it out of the B class). I was perfectly content with a showroom floor bike with the suspension specifically set up for me and maybe a few ergo things like grips.... I could have two brand new bikes and an enclosed trailer for the price of one Amatur worthy ski. However, there is no expensive races fees and much less frequent medical bills in this sport :) But that debate can be had in another thread. I like the idea Jace!

Id way rather see an unlimited class. Why support oem hull mfg if they dont support us? Jusss sayin.
This is basically what we have now. This has nothing to do with supporting the OEM's. This is about Grassroots Freestyle. Not everybody can afford a $20,000.00 ski to compete and be competitive in AM Freestyle. Personally. I believe Amateur should be OEM hulls and 800cc motors.....

I'm just curious, if there was a OEM 800cc freestyle class on the national tour who would compete?

OEM hull
800cc max engine
Limited setup
Footholds
Hand holds

Seems like a perfect way to get people into the sport but keep cost low.

Would it be unfair if someone like me competed in that class? Or should it only be for new comers?
I know my friend George Kelly already competes on a few national tour stops in amateur freestyle on his stock class lites SXR.

Yes I think this would be a great idea, but it needs to only be OEM hulls and a 800cc limit. Having any a/m hull setup vs a stock sxr/sj hull in the same "amateur" class is extremely unfair haha. But it's a great idea don't get me wrong. It would get a lot of the younger guys like me out to these events since we can actually afford to compete in this class.

But then you'd have to buy a AM hull to do good, wouldn't give the guy with a sj or sxr a chance if they allowed a $10,000 hull. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Is it really unfair to let a pro compete if he is also on a oem hull and limited setup, it's still just hood tricks

It would allow modified OEM, which would allow them to cut hack or chop to their hearts delight on their current ski, keep it budget friendly. I think there are plenty of flat water capable affordable older AM hulls that guys could get their hands on, they wouldn't need to run the latest 2015 production models.

I would like to see a limited class. Any hull you desire but, a stock motor with the basic improvements like enhancer, pipe, head, and impeller. Most people have these parts and it would be cool to see what can be done on this kind of setup.

Jace Forest...BRAP!
It's all about getting younger guys and more people into the sport. Low cost, even a older AM hull would still cost $3,000-$5,000. That's just not fair to the kid who wants to start competing and just dropped all his money on a stock ski.
I'd personally love it, I've always loved old school tricks and would slap together a SN with stock 701 just to go out and have fun.

This has been talked about A LOT in the past but, now since the Pro WaterCross Tour is not apart of IJSBA they are wanting to branch out and start this class. I would just like to see people there to compete

This would be super boring to watch. There are plenty of older affordable after market hulls on the market for entry level. Maybe a new class could be 800cc and glass hull?? Just my 2 cents. I totally agree there is a rediculous expensive barrier to be competitive, but don't feel it has to go back to old school.

800cc glass AM hull class would be ultra boring IMO, You'd have a bunch of guys on budget builds trying to successfully complete their first flat water flip at a competition. Amplitude would be just high enough to only drag their head through the water, 1:45 seconds of the two minute run would be spent trying to kick into their foot holds.

I think this is a GREAT idea. It's exactly what the sport needs to grow. However, people would need to show up. It may be intimidating at first, but its a pretty awesome feeling to get out there in front of a crowd. I fully support it.
