I'm about to cry!

I just pulled my head because my ski wouldn't turn over and my f'ing sleeves are rusted!!!!!!!!!!

I now officially hate salt water. My ski wasn't running when I left Daytona so I just held the start button and rinsed it as best I could. when I got home it was a blizzard and still is.

WTF?!!

What am I looking at here?

It shouldn't matter that the water is salty. Water is water, and it looks like i'ts found it's way into the engine somehow.

If I find any sort of water in my engine, especially if it's been sitting for a day or 2, I strip the engine, and check the bearings. If they get a little rusty, they'll almost certainly fail. Maybe not right away, but they will.

Air leak in crank seal?
Girldled head - Compression o-ring?
Flame arrestors?

Sucks, something to learn from, if it is not running and you cannot flush, pour some oil in the cylinders, turn it over a good bit with the starter, that way you can protect the cylinders......... This would not matter whether it was salt or fresh........ never park a ski without blowing it out........

Alright so far......

I PB blasted the hell out of the cylinders while gently brushing by hand with a small brass brush. I used a towel to wipe out the excess. I did this like 4 times.

Then I let PB sit for 30 minutes then 2 stroke oil for 20 or so.

Then I tapped the start button for a millionth of a second. It budged. I let it soak for another 10 and hit it and they are moving:arms:

I'm gonna soak the hell out of everything overnight and check it tomorrow.

The sleeves look perfect though.

This is definitely not the fault of the saltwater. If your ski was not running when you left daytona, hitting the start button is not good enough. There's a very good chance it wouldn't start due to water ingestion, which explains the rust.

That sucks. Sorry to here that Mat.

I would recomend you tear the motor down to the crank and clean everthing up. Your going to find stuff that you are not going to like most likely but I think you will be ok.

It would not start because I snapped the pole and therefore snapped one or more of the wires in my JSS switch.

The pistons were stuck to the bore?

Take the motor apart completely. I wouldn't bet on the bore (or the rings!) being okay.
The crank will need attention.

I just had it running for a second.

I'm gonna let it soak some more overnight and then fire it up with some extra rich gas tomorrow.

Its an 01 stock motor so it it blows it blows. Which will blow but oh well.

Yup no saltwater fault there just the owners fault for not fogging or getting it running right away .

Sorry Mad Mat but it's the truth .Never leave a ski without blowing it out or fogging if your unsure .

I hope it works out for you and after next years ride you'll make sure

Matt are you saying you never had water in the cylinders? In that case, you'd have been way better off if you were riding freshwater... but that doesn't help you much does it
