I was just kidding about re-thinking this! lol
I just filled the chomoly tube with resin. Its drying now, then I'm gonna paint it.
Thanks for the advice though. Maybe down the road I will switch to something lighter, but I know this will be stong as hell.

Im guessing that you tighten the bar in very tight to the bracket(obviously) metal against metal, the bracket being a harder metal than Al. will cause a slight scratch or indentation in the metal. Over time it causes a stress fracture and then corrosion. All that matched with the stress of you yanking on it. Especially if you ride in the salt water.

I'd bet that if you put a layer of something between the metal they would hold.

I manage an aircraft machine, structural maintenance and corrosion shop.........just some stuff that is common, we deal with a lot of Al as you can imagine.

Not getting a good look at it, looks like it just broke all the sudden and did not bend at all. That shows that it was a fatigue fracture most likely caused by an initial scratch in the surface causing corrosion and then for it to snap.

Either that. Or your just one strong ass dude and you have been yankin way too hard on that bitch.

Dont think they would hold up. Different stress points, plus the mounting area is wrong, all the strength is at the center where the stem mounts. On a turn plate your brackets would be out where the taper starts to narrow down.

The stress of them being mounted on a quad would be very similar to a ski.

errr umm......... Those are on a Mountain Bike. Bars shown are not carbon either. How many motocrossers run Carbon Bars????? I honestly dont know if any do.

The spacing on a quad is a bit wider than that if I am not mistaken.

I ride a decent amount of motocross and can't say I have ever seen or heard of anyone running carbon bars. :dunno:

my post say that ski or quad is similar but wider using above picture as reference. and the top king of the hill guys are using carbon alot of motodrosser use flexx systems that have bushings not really applicable for us. but check out king of the hill they are starting to get popular for the people tht have bottom less budgets

i raced downhill mountain bikes for years..i did run carbon bars but they will not hold up for skis..one thing with carbon bars in once they are scratched or gouged they are compromised..time for new ones..i dont know what kind of funky stem that is in the picture you posted but that it not normal..most clamp more in the center, that looks like a chepo china fork and stem..most people try to get the bars mounted as low as possible not with a tall stem like that..i never snapped carbon bars but i did snap some aluminum ones and they gouged by calf and i had to get 20 staples

I didn't read the whole thread but yes Crab uses solid alum. bar you will never break another set of bar's going that way. (solid bar is stronger than tube lol )
