Insurance

Im wondering how many of you actually have insurance on your skis? its apparently NOT a requirement in most states, so i was wondering how many of you actually have insurance and think its worth it? Its not ALL that expensive for me about 90 a month for 2 skis, about the same as my Mustang...

$90/month? :lmao:

That is terrible. I don't carry insurance anymore, but in my younger and stupider days when I financed skis, I was required to carry full coverage. For a 10k Seadoo couch, it was less than $300 per year.
You should shop around some.

I don't remember exactly, it has been five years. What I do remember is this: When I shopped around, I found that insuring them through my home or car insurance was far too expensive - similar to the rate you gave.
I then looked for watercraft/boat specific insurance companies. I think I found an ad in a PWC magazine back then.

I just priced out insuring my 2 standups for full replacement cost and got quoted $1700/yr thru State Farm and $993 thru progressive. (Both stand alone policies.)

I used to pay $325/ski back home with them tied to my house insurance but once they caught wind that the skis were modified, they would no longer insure them, period.

Needless to say I'm still looking...

Personally I really don't give a crap about liability or collision but I wanna get paid if some punk steals my Matrix out of my garage while I'm at work busting my azz.
I can't pay Geno to guard my garage forever...:bigok:

If in your garage, Home Owners should cover that.

I have full coverage, think it is less than $200.00 year.

I've had our skis covered for many years with Progressive
last year they gave me a discount, why, i have no idea
It's good to have it because you never know what will happen, and people are happy to sue for anything they can
not to mention, in the event something happens, your kind of foolish for not having it, think what it would cost if you damage someone's property or worse.... hit or kill someone... accidents can happen

i had two close calls not to have it
in personally think it should be mandatory, just like auto insurance is...
of course paying for it is one thing, trying to collect on it... well i hope not to cross that path....

I'm paying $400 or so for two skis and the trailer
full coverage, theft was only a few dollars more, and i have the higher liability policy, AND i made sure they noted that both skis were heavily modified too, and that is documented.

I would highly doubt that but even still, I want full coverage regardless of it's location. At least for the first couple years...

You guys with the low rates need to start posting where you are getting those rates. Include whether it's a stand alone policy or attached to your home too please.

Progressive is like $100 a ski per year for just liability. Add full replacement cost on a new Superjet and it goes up to $266, add the cost of my Matrix in there and it goes up to $395/year. All in all I think that's pretty reasonable considering what I have into the ski.

i'm valued 15k on my SJ and 10k on her SXr and i forgot what the trailer is valued at

I'm using progressive for the last 8 years (dammm my SJ is 8 years old now)

it was $400 for everything reged in NY, so thats why i was told its more

if you do get insurance and your ski is modified, best to tell them upfront, don't want any worm holes in the event you need it

mine is also not tied to a house or any other policy, just the skis and trailer is all i have with Progressive
Progressive was the only one i found for NY that would do agreed value.

just remember you know what it costs for a jetski.... think what it costs to repair someone's boat or body if an accident happens
and the other good thing, Johnny law and the coast guard respects you more when they pull you over and you show you also have insurance

I'm $400 in Canada for my 07SJ at $6000 value full coverage. Appears theres little consistancy with rates? Those of you paying $100-200 a year may only have liabilty.

I too agree the liablity issue is a concern but I'm more concerned if some jacks my ski even though I lock it up all the time.

Progressive wanted $100/ski for just liability.

I think the big discrepency in prices is coming from what we all value our skis at. I requested $13K coverage for my wifes 07 SJ and $23K for my Matrix because that is what it cost me to build them. Once they reach the 3yr old mark I would be willing to drop insurance all together, I just don't want to risk my investment so early in the game without some form of protection or compensation.

I pay 312 with Allstate for a SJ and fx and the wifes couch. In NJ we are technically required to insure them to get the permits to launch them off the beach. I insure them just incase. I put alot of cash in my junk to get nothing back
