I'm amazed that there is a thread left, about a chan, that I STARTED...... That hasn't been locked yet.

So I bring my chan home from the lake and notice my intake grate is only held on by the front two screws. No bueno.

Tonight I pull it off, the screws were bent, but the insert was firmly in place. Kinda impressed. Not sure if that's allowed here.

I decide its time to finally ride without the grate.

So I whip this up out of some plexi. It'll probably break off... But until then, I'm curious to see how it works.

Looks good swap. I made mine out of Lexan and made the radius match the pump shoe. Worked fine all last season and this season made one out of 1/3" ABS.

So, did you ever get a replacement Chan? Also, remove the chip and apply some 100% Silicone to it, this will keep water from trying to rip it off.
That was Mcdog's idea to fill it with silicone. I'm sure whatever would work fine, just fill the void.

I got a replacement chan...don't know about swap.

Briefly spoke to Steve via txt. Phantom isn't quite final, so when it is, I can start getting excited I suppose.

I wasn't sure what you meant by 'chip' either but now I get it.
Ill do the silicone thing.

All I had was 1/4" plexi, so I scuffed two pieces up and super glued them together. As if it wasn't sketchy enough as it is right?
I'm afraid the part I left sticking out will apply too much leverage against the bolt holes and break it. But, it wasn't that hard to make if I have to re-do it.

On a side note, my ~4 y/o daughter's bedroom is above our garage.
The only time I get to work out there during the week is after they go to bed. So with my plethora of power tools, I end up cutting that thing out with a hack saw, as well as cutting the bolts to length with a hack saw. I did use a belt sander to contour it... And a DA to smooth out the rough spots. But those were much more quiet then my angle grinder and air grinder lol.

I tried to fire up the grinder and my wife came out all like

So I left my fuel jugs outside all winter got water in the gas (or so i'm told), ran the Chan at the Spring LSFR. Water in the gas = water in the carbs. I was full of quit that day so I just packed my stuff and came home.

Since then it's been flooding here I haven't been real motivated to dick with the ski. But last weekend I yanked the carbs and pulled them apart. The diaphragm that engages the N&S was CRUNCHY.....

Not so much...

But more like this...

So I reach out to my old friend @JetManiac. He built these carbs for me 3-4 years ago... and they haven't been open since.

You could say they were due for a rebuild.

He urged me to check the pop-off pressure before I put them back on, and i'm really glad he did, because I didn't think to replace the O-rings on the seats... and they were hard as rocks. During pop-off test air was pushing past the O-rings like...

"thats not gonna work" I said confidently.
I tried to pull/stretch them off and they just broke. No stretchy. Rock hardy.

So... New O-rings, crispy pop off @ 42psi, just as they're supposed to and I was on my way.

After a busy busy weekend filled with inlaws, dueling walkers and great grandma using my bathroom...

I finally got to re-assmble the 38's and reinstall them on my ski.

Little priming and my ski was alll like....

Does this mean you were running fuel that was sitting in your cans outside all winter as well?
