Kawi power?

I have to say that my SXR 800 motor with a pipe and flywheel and stock EVERYTHING else including impeller hits identical to every perfectly tuned 701 I've gone up against (All have pipes, MSD, impellers, heads, porting). Even with an almost identical hull)..and this is with a lot less mods and 30 pounds lower compression. The SXR 800 cylinder porting makes all the difference from the 750s in the low end department. I've ridden a almost 100 different skis and am still very happy with my Kawi's power. I imagine if I port it and bump the compression to 180 and get an impeller, I'll smoke 701s all day long.

The main thing holding Kawi motors back has ALWAYS been the heavy hulls.

Basically, if you are going aftermarket hull, I don't think it matters which platform you run (run what you brung).
If you are keeping stock hull, go Yamaha (hull is that much lighter, making it feel like you have that much more power)

we will have to meet up and u can try out my small pin setup. ports are lower than 800 and it has been bored to 800 and ported. factory pipe dry pipe and dual 44's. should be a fun setup. its going in my 65 lb carbon bob with a 144 pump and a 12/17 prop. should be interesting to see what all the kawi haters have to say once it is done.

Kinda off yet kinda on subject. Same rider on a bouy course with an SXR timed, same rider on a SXR with a SJ power plant timed? Flip it over to SJ and then a SJ with a SXR power plant? That might be interesting. For an engine that doesn't make power, they sure do win a lot of races. The support for the Yamahas I believe comes from the fact that the SXR came out to late. The development of the Yamaha was higher because the SJ was a better race hull than the SXi so that is what people were racing. Had the SXR come out sooner, the tables may be turned, idk just speculation. Both motors make good power and can be modified to make great power. Both have their weak points too. I do prefer the Kawi but must admit that the aftermarket support favors the Yamaha much more. It makes it hard to stay with the Kawi unfortunately. You guys with your Kawi's keep running them as you know they make great power. Want to go to an A/M hull, just get a Rad Dudes bed plate and you're all setup. Have fun guys.

my biggest issue with kawis is big stroker and crazy power the cases become weak. so u are limited. but i totally agree had the sxi hull been a little lighter or had it had skipped the sxi and gone straight to sxr i bet we would have a much different market now. but either way. it is what it is and now i will run kawi as long as possible. then it just comes a debate of how loyal am i and do i want to spen time on the cnc to make stronger cases and go to a daa pv cylinder. who knows. maybe some day.

i'll say it before its done. you wont be satisfied.

Well, adding 4mm stroke to the crank gives you a 78mm stroke. That is equivalent to adding 10mm to a Yamaha, that would need mucho case work. The Kawi requires very little to accept the extra 4mm and I did not notice any case reliability loss. Just a thought, add a 4mm stroker crank to your SXR 800 and see what happens ha ha. There is a kat on here that put a Kawi motor in his SJ because he felt he was more competitive with that setup. I was extremely happy with the Kawi DASA stroker I got from Daniel. I felt it was stronger than the 8mm Yami DASA with MSD T/L I had prior. The Yami was an 885 and the Kawi was an 865 with stock ignition. Everyone that rode it was impressed by the power too.

If it was in a glass RokR then that's my old one. It'll get it done. Funny how people talk about Kawi strokers when they haven't even ridden what they are talking about. Current owner still has more power to find.

Get a 4mil crank, some port work, big carbs and an Advent and keep running your Kawi. Then save up some more and get a DASA top end. Call the regular crank shops about doing it or call DASA for the crank. The DASA one is billet though so may be a little pricey. Good luck and have fun guys.

Good luck getting a Advent...even harder to get a working one.

A Big/Reputable shop is working on a new ignition system right now. Can't wait to hear more about it.

Kawi power for life
