I'm tired of not seeing a Freak build alongside this Frankenstein project! However, I bet it's gonna b fun to try out this biotch.

I'm going pay for this ... trading day light for dark but got more done. I went 4 inches may be a huge mistake .... Scott went 3 1/4 . I guess we will see . This is just the bottom deck top deck will get the same treatment . Used 2 layers of 17 oz bias tape , 1 layer of 12 bias , topped it off with a allayer 8 oz 8HHS (for a clean look) .

The answer is a SH*^& LOAD . The question, How much resin does it take to wet out 2 x 19 oz ,1 x 12 0z and 1 x 8 oz cloth. I weighed each section and mixed batches accordingly. Came in close to a 1 to 1 with full wet out .

I see a super neglected and very expensive hull in the background just sitting. :poke:

If it's in the way, I'll be happy to get that superfreak badass out of your way.

I know it's a shame ... It's on the back burner I'm punishing my self until I get this one done.

Question :

Should I make tray area wider ? Now is the time to decide . Can't do it after I make the top deck rails . I can get 2 inches out of each side increasing it a total of 4 inches from a normal superjet width . I know this is like saying " Hey if you are going in to town , do you mind dropping me off in Montana .

However , Montana is really not that far . I'm planning to cut out and lower the tray and also cut down the sides as marked in pic 3 above . Chime in if you have an opinion .

Well if you decide to increase the tray width what about cutting off both gunwales and then angling them outward? Might be easier and accomplish the same thing especially since you have such wide rails now. When you slice the gunwales in half, you don't leave much room for your elbows.

One thing I've noticed about a super wide tray... When it's really choppy and you want to kick both feet in the holds, it's tough to shift your weight accordingly without the ski trying to tip on a really wide tray. With a narrower tray, there is almost no tipping at all. Either way, I'd personally want the tray slightly wider than stock so that I can kneel in the tray briefly without the footholds jamming into my hips. Yeah I know you only spend like 2% of total ride time kneeling in the tray but it's a luxury feature...lol

I don't have that problem at all, no matter how choppy it is. :dunno:
I do have that problem with those long skinny POS's known as SJ's, though. :lmao:

One other thing I just thought about... If you cut the gunwales like how you have the lines, you better make sure any foothold you put in is short enough. Be a shame to cut off those pretty gunwales only to have a 3" hump in the back where you had to smooth it out to accommodate the footholds.

Just looking , I can get a 22 inch stance with the stock tray if I put foot hold all the way against the out side gunwale. Thats the same as my freak. Scott said that with the bottom being stock width my foot would be on the outer-edge of the lower chine by at least 2 inches that might make the hull a little to sensitive to weight shifts . This makes sense to me . Scott pointed out that TC rides like he is on a surf board feet in the center ( He is TC so he can do that with out our permission ) . Still lowering the tray . I'm building rails for the top deck tonight.

Thanks Nut , I done did thunk about that . Not trimming until I know what foot holds I'll be using . You guys don't be afraid to give CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts.

My thoughts on team work /group thinking is that all of us can't be as stupid as one of us .

22 should be good. The inside of my holds are at 24 and I've got more than enough room. The freaks have good spacing too.

You are welcome to try out my Toby holds when you come down. I kind of like them but if I build another hull, I'm going back with my XFT's. I've switched away from them twice now thinking I was going with something better but I still like the XFT's the most. They do have drawbacks but I feel the most confident with them.

Well the verdict is Hull weight started at 86 lbs now at 95 pounds . Ok ... over 50 percent will trimmed and there for be waste ... shame on me ( insert hand slap ) . I have had trouble in the past only cutting enough to cover the desired area and then running to coverage or wet out problems at the edge. I went a little over board live and learn. The bright side is , my resin to cloth ratios were very close . All said and done I probably wasted 40 bucks in cloth and resin .

Pic 1 Holy freaking bond rail . It's a little wide, hope it does not feel like a 14 foot john boat

Pic 2 Trim line . I'm leaving it a little longer so I can trim if needed .

Pic 3 Shows under side . Should have plenty of room for sponsons .

Ok confession time .... I really did not want the rails this wide I was looking for 3 inches . I measured incorrectly using a square . A dollar for the person that knows how that could happen .

Tip of the day to future rail molders . Use biax tape or heavy cloth it frays less and you don't have to cut strips this goes much faster . In addition I found that weighing and pre wetting the cloth with a scraper worked better (messy) but better. When mixing 8 oz of resin at 85 drgrees .... get it out of the pot and on the cloth.

nice progress. do you think that there will be issues with it having that much more surface area hitting the water? it looks beefy but its going to scoop alot of water on landings. yes/no?
