Surfriding Kevins Area 51 super surf hull TWEEKER X-TREME build ....... maybe

Glassed the sponson tubby like things weight 106 with hood . Getting a little closer , next on the list , tray lowering , plumbing , mounts for the pump , intake and ride plate.

Used 1208 Biax and perforated release film to help smooth out the finnish ..... don't think it will help that much . I expect a ton of sanding and fairing at the end.

Scientific fact , I'm convinced that there is something in bourbon that makes it imposable to keep up with your "GOOD " cutting shears . It's like they add some kind of shear loosing chemical in Woodford Reserve .

Glassing is so easy even a drunk can do it ...... or you have to be a drunk to do it .

allright drunk glassing !!!! at least your got the glass on the hull .:woot: I am curious as to what you think today about the results of the release film .

Release film to my surprise really helped level out the course Biax . Still needs serious work , but it did cut it down considerably.

Got the bulk head aligned ( the Factory alignment marks really help ) . Also filled in all the thru holes in the bulk head. I plan on lowering the exhaust hole about 2 inches to clear the tray . Both cooling lines will be on the left side of the bulk head ( just makes more sense easer to get to without crossing the shaft ) Not my idea , but a good one nun the less . Tem does it that way on the freak .

FYI : when the plexus is removed the bulk head needs to be shimmed about 1/8 of an inch .

Question : Do I use plexus or cabisil and epoxy .

Plexis is thicker and should allow me to adjust without shimming with glass . Epoxy should be stronger /cheaper , but I don't know if I can mix it thick enough to ensure it not running out of the sides . Think I'll sleep on it ..... the night is young you never know .

I think your shaft is a little long! lol

I think the problem is that glass work has to be done with beer...drinking bourbon might cause you to leave too many air bubbles~ :)

Kevin what foam do you plan on using to fill your hull? I have been researching were to purchase petroleum resistant extruded polystyrene from a Foam company on the interent. If your interested I'll keep you in the loop when they get back to me.

That's what she sa... i can't . I Plan on running 5 extra ware rings ! I rolled everything out nicely so no bubbles , just could not keep up with my shears .

Do you think there is any chance of performing this type of rocker mod on a Carbon hull? I wouldn't be taking it to this extreme, but I like the bond line that follows the rocker and would prefer to keep as much of the original layup in tack as possible rather than cut the nose off and rebuild.

I have the opportunity to purchase a splashed Sj hull fresh out of the molds and the guys layup equipment for what I feel is an excellent price, but I would like to do all the trendy mods to the hull over the winter.

For what we ride, a shortened lightweight Sj hull with a little more rocker and tubbies would be about ideal... I can't afford to purchase a new AM hull at this point.</SPAN>

I don't think so. Adding heat to a traditional lay up would cause serious delamination. SMC is heat formed so you can reform it somewhat with heat . Best bet is to cut and foam. Posting pics tonight build still going. Daytona is the goal.

Second fairing coat drying tonight . I think I have decided to go with the bob adjustable foot holds ... pricy but don't have the time to make a set . Really want adjustable holds due to the fact I have no idea where the balance is going to be on this thing if I add an additional ware ring down the road . Hats off to the guys that can keep everything straight and even .... it's truly an art .

Sanded out the final skim coat looks pretty good ... the primer will tell the tell . I may have some more touch up. Touched up the bulk head in a few areas and set the pvc tube (shaft guide) while working out the shimming for the bulk head . I'm all set to attach the bulk head insert foam and plumb .

Working out some details with the foot holds . I really want adjustable holds . May hit the easy button and go with the bobs may try to fab something up. My idea is to have the actual hold slotted and so It can slide fore and aft . Hard to explain .

Pic 1

Shows the outside bracket aluminum or composite . It's only function it to distribute the point load on the gunwales . It would be mounted low close to the 90 degree angle again it minimize flex . You don't realize how much load you put on that area when you shove your little piggies into the holds.

Pic 2

Shows how I want to widen the stance . The out side of the existing gunwale wall will become the inside . I'm worried about compression and strength so material selection is well huh umm critical . I have considered just bolting directly to the out side wall and cut out boxes in the new material so compression will be taken out of the question. Or I may just go with the bobs , Or may just put regular foot holds in or ...... where are my FU%%$ing shears.
