An invite would be nice you know. Hard to be in the center of the action when we are on the other side of the world.

"Help me, help you"
We'll be there, you just got to let us know.
Send me some dates, who is setting it up, what you expect, what to expect, what can we do, and so forth.
Brian

Masterblaster will hook ya up. He is the Virginia Beach sponsor man. PM him...

Just look on the freeride events board! I think Daytona, Virginia Beach and WaveRave in Michigan are the biggest ones...

How the hell can you say racing is down? Stand up racing up is back!:Banane19: Both surf slam and Daytona had races this year. There are also 2 national race tours planned for 2010. Get your head out of the sand:twak:

Im not hating on racing,I still think its boring as hell to watch in comparison to big ocean wave air,and is being respawned by the same old timers retiring off their mods for a less physically demanding and less $ sport spec class, perhaps dreaming of the nostalgic days of the early 90s when sponsors factory teams and crowds were involved. its undeniably been on its way down ever since and there is no way it will get back to where it was.Their is not enough young new talent as is the case with freeride
Tona did have a small race and ive always thought surf races were mildly entertaining to watch,I hope it holds steam and makes it back next yr,we are entertaining the thought of having a surf race at wavedaze as well from region 8. The #s of riders involved in these pales in comparisons to the others, like 100/1 though.

I have some real good racer buddies, that have helped me alot but they all have a few things in common, and they know it..they enjoy wrenching more than riding cause they dont have to leave the house to do it,may possibly ride once in a blue moon if they can rally their whole sorority to do it at once, even though they have 5 times more skis and $ in them than freeriders do. They are all getting old, married, have kids and way higher prioritys than riding skis, this translates to 0 dedication to the sport for the future and hence the dying trend. We still love them though....lol

Your trying to compare freerides in general to a once a year event. The World Finals is huge, but it brings people from alround the world. Yes, attendence is down, there is only a fraction of US Racers who can afford to move out to Havasu for 1-2 weeks. Yes, 1-2 weeks, it takes time to get your ski's dialed in out there. But if you look at Regional Racing in the US, it is growing. There are 2 National Championship Circuits running now.

If you think it is boring, fine, but no reason to put it down just because you dont care for it. Personally, I would much rather race than compete in Freestyle.

FWIW I thought that surf race in Daytona was the chit! Rolls....carnage....broken down pros! I would LOVE to see another one in Virginia.....and every free ride coast to coast for that matter.

I have been to Wavedaze the last two years and it is a fun event. I had a great time. But, lets be realistic, there are more people at a region 8 race than showed up to wavedaze either year I have been there.

And your comments about racers and sororities, being broken down, etc. Me and my group practice every weekend. And unlike some people, we practice just like we ride. We don't go out and surf waves and try to talk about how RAD we were for doing it.

Some people on this site REALLY have a high opinion of themselves. The elitist attitudes are just comical. If you like freeriding, great. I enjoy freeriding, I also enjoy racing. But, I don't need to act like freeriding is g@y to justify my passion for racing. And I don't spend a lot of time trying to define what freeriding is, because I don't do a lot of it. It would seem kind of retarded for a novice freerider to be barking out opinions on the sport when there sure are more educated folks around to do that.

Maybe next year. It always falls on the wife's birthday weekend. I tried to explain to her that a trip to Daytona would be a great b-day present, but she knows why I want to go and just laughs when I bring it up.

Who knows, that is a year away.

I think VB will grow to be nearly as big. It is so dayum nice there...and just as good a chance for some nice ocean waves....

Scottie, that was directed mainly at the militant racer with something smart to say always.Matts thread was pretty much complete in info...sometimes they just transform at the end,lol

wavedaze as not a accurate gauge yet,it is just growing large enough to draw from the south.Right now its mostly a northeastern thing, but it is growing FAST.and pulling riders from farther away each yr,Matt and his crew are coming from clev.Im not building these yrly events up as much as im saying their attendance by all these crews all over the states shows where the sport is going.Look at the pro engine builders out there now,how many Race motors to freeride ride setups do they have going out.One thing we can all agree on here is 2 stroke sport class is all we care about. Daytona being held in the south is a much more accurate measurement of the current state. You would just have to see it for yourself,no one picture or vid is large enough to grasp its scope.

To the positive side.As I said we are trying to include it in wavedaze as surf racing is pretty fun to watch and brings a new element to these meets.Id love to see it grow here. there is just something about riding in the ocean,it creates a very dedicated attendance, not to mention the permanent ride crews that reside there. Wrenching is cool but it aint riding.

I've been for a ride

I'd be safe and warm
if I was on a wave

stopped into X metal
I passed along the way
well, I got down on my knees
and I began to pray

you know the machinist likes the cash
he knows I'm gonna say

all the leaves are green

I could leave today
