Super Jet Lites Class Superjet build

Just an fyi, when you install the 61x nozzle you need to remove your engine and midshaft from the ski to align your pump/driveshaft. I have found that the mounting ears(where nozzle bolts to hull) on the 61x nozzle are slightly thicker that the oem 08+ nozzle. This will create an upward angle of the driveshaft and must be reshimmed/aligned in order to avoid vibrations.

Notching the oem nozzle is very simple and creates less work overall considering the intricate realigning process on yamaha setups.

Edit:
Or you can simply machine the ears of the 61x nozzle down to the exact thickness of the oem nozzle and just keep it on the down-low if you make it to a big race where you might get teched

Or slot this bolt ? Seems dumb to put on a 61x nozzle.

Or slot this bolt ?
Yeah, that's the bolt hole to slot.

The bolt to pivot distance is about 80mm if memory serves. That means the bolt needs to move 1.3964mm (0.055") rearward to pull 1° out of the angle. Yamaha left enough material in the bracket to pull out the entire 4° if needed (which is 5.5941mm or 0.220").

x = 80 · tan(1°) ... [or 2°, 3°, 3.7°, 4°, 69°... whatever]

Math!

Big kahuna has it right, it might be best to slot it so you can try all positions and see what works for you. Mine is about 1° up a the moment and no front sponsons, but I'm still getting this thing dialed in just how I want it

Well the front sponsons were amazing. You can dig so hard!!!!

I had the nozzle about straight then moved it up to around 1*. Straight the back end wasn't digging hard enough and tried to slide more. Not sure if I'm even gonna use the rear sponsons. Im very happy with it right now.

What exactly would the msd enhancer do on a lites build? Got the same setup going and looking at the ocd mod or msd enhancer.

About to pre register for the first race. They offer a beginner limited class, should I try that or just power through in Amateur lites? This will be my first ski race however I grew up racing MX and ran 125 and 250 B.

Last year the first race day I ran beginner class with a decent line of other people. I'm glad I did, we all moved to our respective class the next weekend, though. For me it would depend on how many people are going to be on the line with you.

Ill just run the Amateur lites.
If you're used to racing MX and know what it feels like to leave the line in a crowd, you're fine to jump straight into Am Lites IMHO. The majority of the guys in R5 are just like us, in the fact that we all have to go to work on Monday. Nobody wants to get hurt or hurt anybody else since we're only racing for bragging rights. I also know that you are in rather decent shape so you should do pretty well and be very competitive.

My ski got banged up more in Begfordinner and Nervous classes than ever in Expert or Pro. By the time you're racing higher classes, you have a better clue how not to bang into someone. Unless you're MacCluggage, of course. He doesn't have to care. :)

Beginner used to be one race, then you went Novice. It never used to be a full season. That's nuts. Then again, we used to have LCQs for full gates of Novice and Expert.

I'm not one to reminisce but I miss those days.

Just want to add

Rode my ski with a level nozzle and wow. Wo every where and the back end never came loose. No porpoise launching either. I did have a full tank though. It's like an sxr/trinity hull now. Highly recommend it.
