Looking for guidance on what I need in an A/M ski

I looked at a dealership online and they were asking 10,500 for a Superjet, which is unreasonable, even for Hawaii. So I'm interested in purchasing an aftermarket ski that has already been built and I wanted to know if my goals were reasonable. I have been cruising the "whole skis for sale" but need to learn a bit more on capabilities.

Things I'd want:

$20,000 price limit possibly.
backflip capable.
5 gallon tank.
Can float on water for extended amount of times, while I would rest on the sand bar. I don't know if this is normal/not normal or if i need a bilge pump too (and what effect it would have on the battery).
Ability to cruise to a sandbar about a half mile away to get to the location I would play at.

Does anybody have advice/guidance? I'd really like to be able to go to the Kanaohe sandbar on weekends and just ride where it's deep then take breaks. Here is a picture of the area I am interested in.

Just keep looking and be patient. Theres a lot of a/m hulls that would work for you.

Our group rides a mile to a island and hangs out/chase yachts when they leave. I ride a footrocket a buddy rides a xfs the rest are on sj's, we all have no problems keeping up with the yachts.

Your want a sub 800cc motor to get good mpg for your type of riding, I know from experience. You can back flip that size of motor off a yacht wave.

Something like this http://www.x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/krash-footrocket-15-000.152789/ this ski has 38mm carbs, so it would still get decent mpg plus stock tank and cheap enough so you can afford to ship it.

Yah, I'm gonna be patient and look for a good deal that fits me well because I am not really in a huge rush. Still looking for a place to live here haha :)

if u want a tiny hull my experience is the rok R is my favorite riding. if u are mostly looking for a cool nice hull that is decent flat water and awesome in surf, the superfreak and an oler rickter used fs1 or fr2 would be awesome.

The good news is that there are quite a few skis for sale right now that check off what you want.

The bad news is that you haven't been on any of them.
I've owned and driven A LOT of cars in my life, and I wouldn't buy a car for 20k without driving it first and skis have even more variation between brands/motors/pump setups/layups etc etc.

How "painful" would it be for you to fly out to the Daytona Freeride?
There will be a lot of skis available to try out and I imagine there will be many that are for sale.

Thats a beautiful ride spot. At least from that angle.

I think your advice is pretty spot-on. I actually was at the World Finals but unfortunately left before the last days because I was travelling to Hawaii for work. I will look into Daytona. Cost isn't much of an issue. More of the using leave and all that stuff.

Anyone else who replied, i read your post even if I didn't reply.

air blair

you are the reason
You should buy one of my Skis cause im visiting hawaii next year for our 20 year anniversary and i want to say i rode hawaii. My opinion is rickter is a premium hull and built to take a beating and keep on going

I would recommend a Kdx. It can do it all with great ease. That's my personal opinion. I'm hoping to come to Maui this Year. If you buy one. Let's meet up.
