For sure Matt! If these take off, I'll probably design a shorter one. Have to see how they sell. There's been a lot of interest in them, but a lot of interest doesn't always translate into a lot of sales. We will see.

From there plugs were 3D printed

Surfacing primer

Surfacing veil x3 stabilizing

Foil heaters infused

Unfortunately the infusion failed and the part has several flaws. Original plan was to run 5mm hardware, but I ended up bonding the two halves instead.

Fresh Clear coat

Heaters worked great. Was a little difficult to control the heat. Probably need a step down transformer to ~75vac.

Installing an MSD TL and I didn't want an aluminum plate. Of course I had to make my own carbon one.

UHMWPE sheet taped off. Frekote applied

Honeycomb visual layer

19.7oz twill followed by 4mm soric XF

Vacuum pulled and resin infused.

Here it is drilled for mounting, trimmed, and clear coat.

Probably will block it down and hit it one more time with clear before wet sanding.

So question for those that have run Msd TL. The instructions say to mount the coils at least 6" from the brain. How important is this? My original plan was to mount the TL vertically on my board, but with the waterproof box, it is too long.

This is the layout I'm thinking now:

I could move the TL to the right some, but it would require moving my bilge switch and drilling now holes in my plate.

Any input?

I never had an issue with brain/coil location (x3 TL systems) causing probs. I always used a mounting plate that didn't have a footprint much larger than a OEM ebox so all the components were in close proximity.

I second what Pablo said and everyone I know that runs total loss runs it with the coils right beside the brain with no problems.

Thanks for the recommendation! I bought the 1050 too. The brain fits perfect in the 1050, but there isn't enough room to fit the cord grippers. I cut the liner out and I think I'll trim the seal back a little more.

Just your standard batt cable quick disconnect, they are not water tight even with the optional boot, fine for fresh water, but just another failure point for surf

I recently upgraded my iPhone and I have the same damn problem with the location of the period key. Space bar was larger on the old iOS.
