Custom/Hybrid Matrix Talk

Another thing i noticed was absolutely zero bow splash to the face. That little bow splash contraption must actually work!

Boyer, when you come to pick that thing up you should bring all the gut's so we could throw it together at Bobby's shop (or my House) and go for a ride at the lake. ;) I have two spare rooms at my house If you need a place to crash.

Me and Scott had that conversation already and were planning to ride Sebastion that same trip. I was just going to ride my Wife's ski though and not worry about putting my Marix back together on the fly. It wouldn't take too much to put it back together though so maybe that's a good plan. I usually pack just short of a complete shop with me when I travel anyways.

Cool. If you guy's want a free place to stay with a washer/dryer/fridge, and room in the garage for ski's just let me know. One room is empty so one of ya would need a air mattress.... unless you guy's like to cuddle. ; /

Im about 10 miles from the Trinity Shop and about 25 miles from Sebby. Only 2 miles off I 95 on 192.

Best decision I have ever made..

Wait till you try -2", you will be pissed you didn't know about it sooner but your welcome for all the R&D me and Scott are doing for ya, lol.

Everyone keeps saying to go -4" but the next couple Matrixes built will all be -4" flatwater monsters so like Scott, i will be the pioneer and be the first -3". This way all sizes will exist for comparison.

Mark posted on FB last week that his sponsorship with Wammer is over.

Yes, I respectfully discontinued my sponsorship with Wam, no hard feelings I am just looking to team up with a company and friends to continue to do what I love to do, and make the most out of it for everyone who helps me as well

Ooops. 10-4

Mark, did you ride A superfreak, or any of the RRP boat's? Is the Matrix really that good?

I rode the superfreak and wish i could say I liked it but I cant say anything because i personally couldn't ride it with the handlepole being so incredibly short and heavy. My lower back was on fire within 5 min. Tem was one of the coolest dudes I have met that weekend. I have never seen a person more excited to get more gas to let total strangers ride his skis. He was a sponge for input i wish i could have been able to give back some. Hopefully down the road with a longer handlepole I can give it a go and put in some good input to the hull. I was bumbed because i was looking forward to riding one of those for a while. That Handlepole set up is great for freestyle though. Zack Bright flipped the crap out of the red superfreak im not that honed in with flips yet and didnt want to be that guy who augers someones hull into the sand and breaks a bunch of mounts. Zack can give the low down for the Superfreak I think it scared him how much he liked it but ill let him speak for himself.

As for RRP. I rode Mark Murphys Persian Painted Rickter FS1 it was alot of fun but if I settled with a rickter I would put my money into the FS-2 for its carving friendly footprint. Unfortunately i didn't get to ride any FS-2's that weekend. I believe the Rickter Hull is all ways looking for an edge to catch, very squirly but then again i have only ridden a few set ups. To give it justice i would want to test different plates and handlepole positioning.

The Matrix felt more at home for me as far as having the stability of a superjet yet the front rocker to be super playful in the surf. It still could use more inches removed to be as back flip happy as the Rickter and other midget hulls out there today but I would take Scott's boat with a Mag pump out into 10-15 foot surf and trust it without a doubt. The hull is super solid and does kind of hit you back when you land but i feel like theirs just a few of us on the west coast who pad our trays with Hydroturf's 26mm Black Under padding to cushion that kid of stuff. I am excited about the matrix because it is something really different, almost bullet proof, and has a lot of potential. Most of all if i were to end up with a Matrix I would never worry about my hull breaking no matter how bad might I punish it.

I would love to have a ride of the -2 to see the difference.. The problem is i'm still the only person in Australia to have a Matrix.. (hope that changes)

As Mark said, not having to worry about breaking anything is such a relief.. My donor ski for my Matrix was a 09SJ and it was destroyed from landing wrong but the Matrix has no sign of wear in over a year of riding it. It handles the huge surf awesome too.. I was just on the news 2 weeks ago cause we were out in 15foot waves cause we had a off shore cyclone happening..

This is a video I made of 2 second time ever riding my ski.. The reason I kept bailing in the video was cause my motor kept dieing as I would give it full gas so I didn't want to land wrong..lol

Luke, Since you ride the bigger surf, you may actually preffer the longer length in your hull, although I think it would still be plenty stable enough at -2".

Warren, I will be sure to post up before and after pics and whatever Bobby sends me as I'm sure there will be some other Matrix owners interested in doing this as well.

i might have to come out again to ride the new -3 hull!!!!! i would be very interested to see how this comes out . i have been looking on the matrix web sight and nearly emailed bobby a couple of times for more info , but at the moment i dont have the funds (still need to build my x 865 ) but when i do i will be making serious enquires on these hulls (unless warren wants to do me a deal on that pro lol). like i said they make you feel a better rider than you are .and the fact they seem bullet proof is great. i break more stuff than anyone i know accept maybe 100mph steve , so something that can take a beating would be great .
has scott tested the mag ? would like to hear how much difference that made

You are more than welcome to come for a ride whenever you wish.

Scott bailed on the pump swap. My shaft is 3/16" longer and he didn't want to go thru all the work to shift the motor and midshaft just for a week or two.

I would guess it will work, there is a fair bit of room for the pump shaft to move forward/backward in the mid shaft.

I guess I should have reworded that. Not only is the shaft longer, but the spines of the shaft are shorter and the midshaft bottoms out on the shaft. The only option would have been to shift the midshaft forward as well as the motor. After all the trouble Scott has been through he just wasn't up for it. I had to do the same on my build so I suspect that the Skat shaft isn't built to the same specs as OEM.

Got an update from Bobby this morning, he's doing my hull mod as filler in between steps in major jobs so it's going to be real slow progress. I am just happy he's able to fit it in at all. I could have done the work myself but feel alot better that he's doing it.

Anyways, he just cut into my hull this morning and was pleased to find that after seven months on the water it was still bone dry. I was originally given the option of installing a drain plug but felt that if I did, i would always suspect that the drain plug itself was the leak so I left my hull fully sealed knowing I could always add it later if I felt there was water getting in. Looks like I won't be needing that drain plug anytime soon. :bigok:

We also discussed several ways of doing the cut and what we wanted to end up with. Since we are only opening up the back of the ski, it will be harder to seal back up again after. Normally one would be able to work thru the tray with footholds removed but in this case that is not an option. With this restriction in mind, it looks like we are only going to achieve -2" and still guarantee hull integrity, strength and original finish.

Wow that is thick! No wonder they are on the heavy end of the aftermarket hull spectrum. I bet you could drop it off a bridge and not crack it.

Thanks for the write ups everyone! From the feedback my bro and I have decided on the -4" on our Matrix Pros. I'm super excited to get mine...it just sucks I live in MN and we'll have to wait for the lakes to unfreeze to even get them tested out..
