Got some work done. Rejetted my carbs and cleaned them out. Took the chokes off and put in a primer kit. Pulled the cylinders, used muriatic acid to clean out the corrosion, cleaned up the exhaust ports with a dremel, and reinstalled them with a new base gasket and a RIVA girdled head. I also cut the flame arrestor so it will still fit. The only engine work I have to do now is to install my jetinetics flywheel and set the timing. I did all the engine stuff a couple of days ago.

Today I cut the holes for my trim tube and one way valve. I also ground off the connectors on the bulkhead that the screws go in so I could reinforce easier. I put some 1/8" brass fitting in the back of the ski for drains. I epoxied them in, epoxied the exhaust screw holes, and the hole in the hull I caused while defoaming. I used 3:1 epoxy with cabosil for this. Then I used epoxy with cabosil and microballons in the bondline in the rear and laid fiberglass over it while it was all still wet. I also laid some fiberglass over the enlarged exhaust tube hole so I can seal it later.

Trimmed out and started the install on my footholds today. I think I'm going to brace them in place and foam the gunwhales and the pole mount area of my ski at the same time. Then I'm gonna seal up the tray without any foam anywhere else. Hopefully, that will give the gunwhales some structural support, but will leave the bottom open to drain any possible water and will save some weight. It will also save some future weight if the tray leaks (no wet foam).

I foamed and reinforced the handlepole mount area. I used one layer of 1708. I hope that's enough. I also covered the fuel fill area since I'm planning on installing the Blowsion cover piece. Hanging it upside down is definitely the way to go. I also fiberglassed over both sides of the exhaust hole and cut it out again for the exhaust. It is a lot lower now. You can see it is almost down to the hole the factory leaves for foaming.

Should I put some more layers in the handlepole area?

I cut the hole for the one-way valve in the pump area. I ended up using pvc because 5200 WILL NOT stick to ABS according to the directions. I put some pics of the paper templates for the fiberglass pieces.

I filled the bondline with a mixture of 3:1 epoxy, cabosil, and microballoons. I went ahead and filled the entire bondline and the areas around the bulkhead. 1708 fiberglass on the sides, nose, and the area behind the ebox. I figured I would reinforce the nose some after seeing all the Daytona carnage. I put a layer behind the ebox to reinforce the hood latch and the front foothold I'm installing. I sealed around the bulkhead with the microballoon mixture and used 1 inch tape. I wanted a good seal to make sure my foam stays dry.

The last pic is every medium clamp, chip clip, clothes pin, and any other clip I could find plus some from my father in law and another neighbor. The 1708 wouldn't stick to the hood lip without a little help.

As you can see I didn't put any color in the epoxy. I was going to use black, but I decided to paint the whole engine compartment with white gelcoat instead.

I did all the stuff in the last three posts yesterday. I started at 8:30 AM and finished at 5:00 PM. My wife is really starting to get pissy about the time I'm spending on this. I keep telling her that I just want it done before spring.

Looks good.

I know exactly what you mean. My wife was ready to divorce me. Now that I'm done with my build, I drive my wife nuts just sitting around the house. I can't win.

Following all these builds makes me realize some things I missed or could of done better. Nice work.

Its a no win situation with the women, just a fact. Love the pic with all the clamps, thats awsome. Are you going to get rid of the sharp corner that those revs create at the top and back of the ankle and foot? I have ridden a few boats that are installed like that and its painfull.

Oy yeah, I'm going to round it out as much as possible.

I got a little done today. I cleaned up all the rough fiberglass edges around the hoodlip and some other places with my dremel. Exhaust and one-way valve are installed and the 5200 is drying. The way 5200 runs drives me crazy. I put a female threaded coupler on the one-way pipe where it goes through the transom(bulkhead?), so I can plug it if I want. Tomorrow I'm working on the footholds some more, and foam is coming.

I didn't get squat done today. I guess footholds will go in NEXT weekend.

The tray is one piece and I'm using aeromarine two part foam.

I modded the back right foothold so I can ride left foot up and right foot back. I ran out of foam today, so I sanded and put some gelcoat on the bottom of my hull. For some reason the gelcoat will not dry on the cabosil/epoxy hull repair area.

I also switched out my stator and installed a 61x jetinetics flywheel.

As soon as I get some more foam, I'll be finishing up the tray and then turf's up!

Look at me! I'm Matt E! OK so I copied Matt. He had a dam good idea.

I foamed with polystyrene. I jammed that thing as full and tight as I could, and I'm locking the foam in place with some two part foam. I hung the ski upside down and filled the gunwhales around the footholds to lock them in real good. Tomorrow I'm fiberglassing the tray.
